Two days ago I had to weigh in a document to post.

So I stood in a queque .... looking over my left shoulder I saw a line of three automatic

'teller' machines where we can purchase goods.....did not inspect them at close quarters but

I thought to myself, I don't want a machine I want a human to speak to.

Eventually I got served, but no stamp was put on my document, I had written 'air' no air stamp was put on my document to the UK.  It just had a crummy print out as a recept to say I had paid $2.90.

What happened to all the wonderful coloured postage stamps that advertised Australia, are we as a nation in hiding I thought?

No wonder we have a larger amount of people unemployed.

I got the distinct feeling that they wish they were not working there.

This is a post office that used to be the friendliest around and nothing was too much trouble for them with a smile on their faces and a friendly chat.    Now we have grumpy service;   whatever is left of the human  in Australia Post Office?

Attila,

Ours is still friendly enough. Plenty of chat at the counter and when picking up a parcel through the outside hatch.

I even had a chat one day through my PO Box to the person on t'other side.

Pretty much the same all over town though I do avoid Woolies.

Take it easy.

Areas like where you are SD usually are but about 12 months ago when we were in your  neck of the woods I bought a pair of boots, the shop was run by Husband & Wife who looked like they had had one heck of a disagreement before we got there, the service was the worst and they tried to up the price, we did note that the business was closing at the time, I didn't need to wonder why.  I will point out it was the only bad service we got there....

Thats how ours was Shaggy, always a friendly smile.    I just hope it reverts back to those days.

Deanna,

Yeah I think I know the shop you mention.

Never bought anything there, we buy shoes etc from the shoe shop at the main intersection, always helpful and friendly.

No matter where you go there are people about in the retail business who really have no idea when it comes to sales.

I do not think that will ever change.

Take it easy.

I hope the new owners are more successful.... You are right, no matter where one goes there will always be a mixture of good and bad service... We find country businesses are more helpful than a lot of the city businesses...

i am fortunate that i have a great post office,   [there are 3 in south melb,]    but i only use one , regulrly,     i get great service,   they know me there,   and i find nothing is to much trouble for them,   if i have seen something for sale at the big post office,   they will get it in for me there,    and ring me when it arrives,,      it is terrific service,    but what i DO object to is that to buy a normal stamp is $1,      then if you want to make sure it arrives within 4/5 days,   you have to buy another 50C stamp to get FAST MAIL,      what happened to the days of getting a letter within 2/3 days of posting, ?    the posties have electroc bikes now,    so should be able to deliver more,  and quicker.    but thats not the case,   apparently,

Cats that is how our local post office was till recently.

Regarding the deliveries it is terrible has been for some years.

They have a parcel and put a card in the post box to say it needs collecting and that we did not answer the door bell!  Having been home all day and the bell did not ring I think it a lie.   I have had several people I know complain about this, not only in WA but nsw also.

In the UK the posties have to walk up each path from the front gate in all weathers, snow and hail.  People do not have posts boxes as you know, but have a letter slot in their front doors, so they just go to their front door to collect their male that has already been put through the slot and has falled on the front door mat inside the house!

Attila,

Despite there being a home mail service we opted for a PO Box many years ago.

Suits us but it obviously would not suit many.

Take it easy.

We have a lovely postman (a newcomer to the country).  Always a smile and a wave even when we are not in our own street but still in the suburb.

If he sees us driving out of our driveway he will wait and pass the mail through the car window to us....I do hope he stays around for a while as so many move on after a while.

i did have a bit of a bad experience last week,     went to the mail box and a card said i had a parcel to collect,     said they had tried to deliver,   but no one home,    this was a down and out lie,      we had not left the house,    and i know if anyone is at the gate as the dog barks,     and will keep on barking until one of us goes out,          it was luck that that day i was going to  shop opposite the post,    so no trouble to pick it up,  but if i had had to go miles out of my way i would have said something,    as it was,  i did tell the lady that served me ,  that i was home,     but by the blank stare i goy back,   i dont think it registered,    or maybe they are so sick of hearing the    same thing,    they dont care,

I agree Australia Post service is dreadful and most importantly, unreliable.  We had important documents being sent via the yellow overnight express...  Didn't arrive, as we weren't hanging out to get these documents we didn't worry, thinking sender had forgotten to post...

Well, after several weeks, remembered and checked with sender, the documents had been sent overnight express, - Australia post courier"s records state they were "delivered Friday 8.43am" ...  I and hubby home, didn't arrive... gone ...  big stress now as very private financial / tax paperwork lost who knows where...identity theft etc is now a fear.

Frustrating as there is absolutely nothing we can do !

CINDY LOU,    i send a lot of mail by express post,   and you should have a tracking nu on there so you can trace it,   good luck,    i get paranoid about mail,      as said,   i have to do express mail with money orders in them,    and im always on edge until they get there,   but never had any trouble,     keep at them to trace the mail,

We were continually getting other peoples mail from down the street, I got so fed up I went to the sorting office and asked to speak to the manager each time, luckily the sorting office was not that far from where we lived.

Things started to improve after that.

If it is not possible to go at least a couple of times to complain at the sorting office their managers don't know about it.

Years ago, like about twenty it was happening, but I did not think of going to the sorting office, I wrote the the CEO of Australia Post!  LOL  I soon got a phone called from the state manager asking questions!

If people don't complain they don't know their week spots.

Gone are the days of 'she'll be right mate'  I think we need to be vocal.

Thanks for responses...unfortunately tracking number only said delivered 8.43am ... Which we never received, because time had past before I realized item was lost it was not possible to ask courier /deliverer if they remembered delivering ?  Lost forever which is so frustrating.

Was it left on your door step Cindy Lou?  Perhaps someone watched the delivery and helped themselves to it?

If there is something that is important I pay the $2 extra for insurance.

Thanks for response Attila - sadly I can't confirm where parcel was left due to the time elapsed before I realized it was lost.  However, I truly can't see someone watching delivery etc - I live on a small acreage in a cul de sac - so I'm guessing it was delivered to wrong address - porch and someone has thrown it in the bin... Very scary as all my business and tax info in parcel  --   Identity theft a big concern

Yes CinyLou I think you are correct, what a shambles the post office is in. We used to get deliveries at the previous house that should have been delivered three doors down, it got so bad I had to go and complain at the sorting office.

Cindy L,

One reason we switched to a POB back aways.

That doesn't help here Shaggy.  We have one for the Hockey Shop and we are always having to hand back mail that doesn't belong to our box.

I agree.  Australia Post service has gone down the tube.  In SA we have very few official Post Offices, they are all contracted out and the service is terrible.

I have trouble with the one near us, he makes a mistake every time and it takes him ages to sort out what he has done wrong.  If I have to do any business with them now I go to an official Post Office.  I only ever buy stamps at the local place.

Son has a Hockey Shop and we do a lot of posting & receiving of Hockey Gear and we are always chasing them about deliveries not being received.

We had a small post office attached to the mail sorting centre in Lonsdale SA that many local businesses and locals used but in their wisdom AP closed it, despite a Federal politician asking it remain open and it was always being busy when I called.

I guess it was to pay their useless CEO's massive payout. He sure saw us coming!

They want to know how to improve Parcel Delivery ????

"We are always happy to follow up on service issues, have you contacted us to lodge this feedback previously?

If you would like us to report this matter to your Delivery Centre, please send us a private message via Facebook, or Twitter with your address details and instances of delivery failures.

Alternatively, you can contact us on 13 13 18."

I made an official complant - an absolute waste of time and resources.  Nothing changed - my precious private documents are gone forever.

CindyLou write to the new CEO.

I would, I did some years ago and had a call from the State Manager here in WA!

Yep, write to the CEO and mark it personal....always worked for me!

Please don't address the letter to the CEO you need to put her name on the envelope and letter.

Unfortunately in my situation too much time has passed - the courier who "delivered" the overnight express parcel couldn't be expected to remember something that was mailed months ago.  Only record available is a delivery time and date.  I know from my diary hubby and I were home, it was early morning 8.43am...I'm slow to get moving in morning so I know I'd have been home etc.

My personal papers re gone...I was fairly horrified given the information it contained but I've had to accept the situation.

All the complaints in the world cannot help - darn.

If you know the date and time, they will have the records.

Thanks for post Attila, when I complained etc and they checked the tracking number they told me the date and time they allege it was delivered.  They don't have the address recorded so, two possibilies in my opinion, sender (my accountants staff) put wrong address on parcel and it was delivered to wrong property.  Or.      Delivery driver delivered to wrong address.   Either way whoever received it didn't return to sender etc. All I can hope is it was put in the bin and has gone o the tip.  I'll never know :(.
