Australian or New Zealand rules?

Up until early this year I had been receiving an Australian aged pension and a part New Zealand aged pension. Recently, I moved back to New Zealand permanently after working in Australia for 35 years. Both pensions were substantially reduced to comply with the Social Security Agreement between the two countries because, when added together, would equal the amount of pension I would receive had I lived my life in New Zealand.

Okay, fair enough. However, I haven't been able to clarify, despite repeated attempts, whether I come under Australian or New Zealand rules when it comes to asset testing or the proposed regulation of the 6-week absence from the country, which would affect my entitlement. New Zealand doesn't have either of these restrictions but does have a tax on pensions.

Edward Victor.

Hello Ed,

Try emailing Hank Jongen.  He and his staff are very helpful.  Recently had a friend who couldn't get answers so she emailed him at:-

hank@centrelink.gov.au.

They replied very promptly and sorted things out for her.

Many thanks. I will do that.
