Australian TV star, dead at 77
Actress Cornelia Frances known for her work on Home and Away and as host of game show The Weakest Link, has died after a battle with cancer.
In an Instagram post, her son Lawrence Eastland described his mother’s final hours as “peaceful, soft and serene”.
"I truly love this woman," he posted on Instagram.
Frances was born in Liverpool, England, and moved to Australia in 1970 where her career took off.
In a statement, Channel 7 said: "Cornelia Frances was a unique person. Her on screen presence inspired a generation of actors.
"This gift was coupled with an ability to bring a sense of dignity and presence into each room she entered. Her energy and character will be missed."
She became well-known for playing nasty characters such as Sister Grace Scott in The Young Doctors, and Barbara Hamilton Sons and Daughters.
She is also well-known for her long-running role of Morag Bellingham on Home and Away from 1988 until 1993, appearing as a permanent character and then on a recurring semi-regular basis from 2001.
What was your favourite memory of Cornelia Frances?
She was at her best hosting the "Missing Link". However, the last photo of Cornelia, taken by her son, for the public to see, was not, in my mind, an act of dignity. Sadly, for all the stardom, all the fortune spent on cosmetics, hairdo, expensive fashion, aspiration for wealth...one life ended in an undignified exposure.
