Bad Language

I am finding that the Television and movies are using Four letter words more and More. As an Oldie I do not like it and do not watch any show that says Course Language. I have made complaints to the Minister and Television Stations to no avail. I cannot watch much on television except hildrens shows. Even some PG shows have four letter words. I am at my wits end what to do.

Does anyone else have this problem?

That is good news. I hope iy happens here.

Robi

Mr Putin did!!!!

Good on you sidney, see you're holding your own well. Am very surprised the knockers haven't accused you of being one of the "family" yet. That's their love name for a group of us they have trouble running off the forum, hahaha

Hi ray

Thanks for your support. I am in there punching on.

Ray, please discuss the issue, not just the people who see the world differently from you.

The language and the sex drive me nuts ... If I went up to anyone and said F... C.... I would be arrested or cut off yet they can come into my lounge room any night or dy any time and swear and have blatant open sex.... What is going ou with our society!!!!!

What's wrong with sex?

Nothing at all, unless you are a voyeur and get your kicks from watching it on TV.

I dout if what's on TV would be enough to satisfy any real voyeur.

(Not that I'm an expert on the topic.)

Virginia, what shows are you actually talking about?  Because I'm certainly not seeing the level of swearing and sex you make reference to in your post

i.e.".........yet they can come into my lounge room any night or day anytime and swear and have open blatant sex.....etc. etc. "  (Not sure what 'blatant open sex' is but obviously you do and find it offensive)....

But darned if I know what programs you speak of, and am fast getting the impression there's a significant element of exaggeration in some of the claims made on this thread regarding the level of swearing and nudity we see on our TV screens...

So if you don't mind Virginia could you give me the names of the programs you are referring to so I can know what you are talking about....

Thanks in advance.

Back to the topic of swearing, saw the "Hillary" telemovie last night. (About Edmund, not Clinton.)

Was reminded that after he climbed Everest, it's well document that he said to his best mate "Well, George, we knocked the bastard off."

Pretty sure Sir Edmund was widely regrarded as a gentleman.

You are a strange guy Barak for sure. You pick the silliest examples to make a point.

No, "bastard" is not a swear word, it is a condition where a child is born out of wedlock as you know and holds no relevance today because no one cares.

Besides Hillary was talking about a mountain, not anybody's child. Geeeez

Might report that for being off topic.

You really are looking for a fight today, aren't you?

I'm not.

hahaha lost the "fight" so he pouts. Go report.

WTF?

Not a "gentlemanly" comment Barak :(-

Agreed.

Nor was yours.

I don't use bad language Barak.

One day you might realise that being a gentleman involves a lot more than not using bad language.

I don't require that "realisation" from someone like you Barak. I am surrounded by a great amount of people in real life who know that I am. I don't take any notice of a faceless person who hides behind a screen and accuses people willy nilly. See ya.

Ah, the clone behaviour again.

Losing a debate. Makes false accusations, and runs away.

My husband's grandmother was a wowser against swearing and when she developed dementia she swore like a trooper. I also once met a woman in a nursing home who, as a result of stroke or some such medical problem was left with only two words in her vocabulary which she repeated all day, every day. Those words were "bum" and "bugger". The brain works in fascinating ways.....

Perhaps a pure act of resentmment with a mind and body rebelling against a very unjust and debilitating disease.

Interesting that the loss of mental capacity has led to this reaction, kind of proves some of the theories expressed on this very site.

Average age of Australian TV viewers across networks

How do they know that?

OzTAM is the official source of television audience measurement (TAM) covering Australia’s five mainland metropolitan markets and nationally for subscription television.

But how do they know the ages of the people they are measuring?

It is done through OZtam data subscriptions .. similar to a small select census

..covering the fivemetropolitan markets (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) and nationally for subscription television.

..they are planning to increase the number of homes in its television audience measurement panel by 50%

Makes one wonder if the stations that telecast in the cities have as many infommercials as us in the country regions,

Do watch whatever you like. if you don't, just change the channel, you cannot change the society.Btw, everybody speaks out their quality and culture.

Sound advice, you beat me to it, fact is you don't even have to leave your seat, just click the remote.  I have always believed that those who resort to bad laguage are those who haven't got the education or imagination to express themselves in an inrelligent manner.

As far as swearing in a social context, I am no angel, after years in the Army and working in factories I can let loose with the worst of them, but I do not find it neccessary to do so in the company of women or children.

I now await with eager anticipation for those women out there who will accuse me of chauvinism for treating them with respect.

My answer to them, is that they can look after themselves in any way they choose but I will always reserve the right to act as a gentleman should.

Reading all the old posts under BAD LANGUAGE makes me smile.

My late Croatian husband used to speak several languages, he explained that in some languages the same word can and does mean something one would not wish to repeat!!  I only learnt a little of his language as he and the rest of the family wanted to improve their English.  So I took to saturday morning lessions to read and write Croatian. This is 45 years ago now.  When I used to practice on my in laws, they were puzzled.  They made the comment that I had no accent! When speaking their language. LOL

But I have to agree the programmes on tv these does are pathetic.    I do like documentaries, historical drama, love BIG CATS, enjoy Escape to the Country.   SBS have a lot of good programmes of late.  I love the Great Australian Bake Off, and the Great British Bake Off too.

I must admit I enjoy a good swear from time to time but never swear in mixed company
