Barnaby Joyce Comeback?

Lost Their Minds: Push to topple Deputy Pm.

by Bevan Shields, Sydney Morning Herald, Wed 17 October 2018

“The Coalition government is bracing for its second leadership challenge in less than two months, with Nationals MPs counting numbers to potentially topple Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack within days.

The growing internal unrest inside the junior Coalition partner has infuriated the Liberal Party, which is fighting to retain its one-seat majority at Saturday's crucial byelection in the Sydney seat of Wentworth.

Former leader Barnaby Joyce, who resigned in disgrace in February after former staffer Vikki Campion became pregnant with his child, wants to reclaim the top job but has denied making calls for support.”

Joyce May Return but he isn’t the future

by Bevan Shields

“Trade Minister Simon Birmingham got it only half right this morning when asked about the push to bring Barnaby Joyce back to the Nationals leadership.

"The media speculation is as ridiculous as the idea of it," Senator Birmingham said.

He was correct to suggest a return to Joyce is mad, but wrong to write it off as speculation. The push to bring down Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack is real and gathering speed.”

The junior Coalition partner is divided into three camps: hardcore Barnaby backers, McCormack loyalists who acknowledge flaws in their leader but can't stomach Joyce, and MPs who will only declare their hand in the event of a party room showdown.

Joyce has only himself to blame for being on the backbench. The former Nationals leader was Australia's most effective retail politician until he cheated on his wife, got his staffer pregnant, found himself the subject of an explosive sexual harassment allegation, and took $150,000 to tell the whole sorry story. Joyce resigned in February and many thought he would end up out of Parliament entirely.

Now his resurrection seems inevitable and could come as soon as Tuesday. McCormack is refusing to resign but the pressure on his position will only escalate from here. We know how this ends.

Even Michelle Landry, a Queensland MP who is publicly urging for McCormack to be given more time to prove himself, can't hide the reality of what is going on.”

Will be good to see Barnaby and Vicki take their rightful place as Deputy Pm and Deputy First Lady

Yeah, sorta like Royalty? How well would that go down with the Oz people? Barnaby Joyce is an idiot of a man who can’t cope with loss of power. Bring back Barnaby and watch the National Party die! He is a fool of a boyman in every way.

Joyce is a drunken bogan, a liar and a cheat and I wish he could be sacked --  mind you I DO NOT LIKE this Michael McCormack one bit and he has about as much personality as a lead balloon   -- he remins me of Mike Pence in the USA
