Each Saturday about an hour before closing for the weekend Woolworth reduces much of the baked goods, fresh meat, deli items & various fruit & vegetables. The produce can't be held over until Monday. So, it goes out of the store fresh & cheap. The savings are massive. This is when I do my grocery shop for the week. For all I know other supermarkets do the same. Definitely worth checking out.
