bill collins

I heard on tonight's news that Bill Collins who had the midday movie for years, has died. He was a bit of a laugh and seemed like a nice man. His favourite film, which he admitted he had seen over 125 times, was Gone with the Wind. RIP Bill Collins.

RIP Bill.

Fellow film expert Margaret Pomeranz told ABC Radio Melbourne about Collins moonlighting with her on The Movie Show. “I don’t think there was anyone in my generation who wasn’t affected by him and enthused by him.”

Foxtel movie critic Graeme Blundell said Collins was a “genuine star”. "There was always the costume — the trademark black square glasses that carefully brushed dark hair and that grin and the intense and the colourful jackets. He was just so…recognisable as a figure but he had an extraordinary knowledge."

Bill Collins was my husband’s Latin and Music teacher at Canterbury boys High school back in the late 1950’s to early 1960’a.

As a younger person used to watch Bill Collins on channel 10  for  the classic movie night. He  had a fountain of knowledge about movies. Will be missed. RIP
