Brisbane's getting swamped
I grew up in Brisbane when it was a relaxed, graceful city with many lovely old Queenslander houses with lush sub-tropical gardens. I left three years ago as it has become yet another impersonal over-populated modern city with more and more ugly tall apartment buildings. Houses are jammed ever closer together and the traffic is a nighmare through the advertisement-splattered streets. It is also extremely noisy.
Last year more than 5.6 million aircraft passengers passed through Brisbane's international terminal, plus more through the domestic terminals. Now, aircraft passenger numbers in Brisbane are set to increase even more with new direct flights to Beijing announced this week as part of the state government's 'connecting with Asia' initiative.
Brisbane airport corporation's Rachel Crowley said the airport was expanding — quickly.
Well, the quick expansion will slow down quite a bit when aircraft fuel is no longer available in the not-too-distant future!
I know the Brisbane airport area well. It was (and still is), a swamp, close to the sea. They fill it in and concrete over it. Not much future for this area as we get bigger storms, surges and higher tides. It will be one of the first coastal areas to be under water.
Very clever planning Brisbane.
Brisbane - beautiful one day perfect the next.
City is booming, beautiful waether 365 days in the year, tropical paradise
We should build another airport
Gold Coast airport already taking lots of traffic, perhaps its time one the size of Sydney airport on the Sunshine Coast. Plenty of land thataway
