Britain moves to block porn

The British Government is curbing access to online pornography next month.

From April 1, Britons who visit porn websites will have to verify they are above the age of 18, with the sites being required to put systems in place for this purpose.

They will have to use a driving licence, credit card, passport or mobile SMS to confirm their age.

Do you think the Australian Government should introduce a similar restriction here?

What would they do about our SBS and their naked shows ?

Personally I cannot see anything wrong with a naked body

..... sometimes it looks better than when it is dressed LOL

I support Britain's move. Russia banned porn on the internet I believe some time ago. Time we did the same in Australia.

But my sweet, if they do that what will the omnivore watch when MAFs has ended???

ROFL good one!

Why do we need such things as porn especially on a computer or the TV, I would think from what I have been told it would give many young ones the totally wrong idea --

It's not a ban or restriction; it simply seeks to ensure that underage persons cannot access on-line porn. I'm a grandfather and I once caught my twelve year old grandson watching very hard core porn on my computer. I would rather he didn't although I admit I didn't know how to deal with it. Criticism is not warranted, no is any form of punishment.

Young minds will find a way to get round all these restrictions. Got my booze and cigs at age 12 with no problems although in my place of origin the legal age was 16 for those things. As the showing of licences, the people would just use someone else's. Credit Cards might be the way to go as a lot of folks might be reluctant to give those to dubious sites.

As for Russia having banned porn - their legal age is 14 and a lot of porn comes from there and Belarus, specially the illegal porn with children and animals.

The comment about SBS is also relevant - quite a few programs are borderline if not outright porn. Just a few years ago topless films were blurred out. Wish Britain good luck for the ban, it will not work.

Cowboy Jim, I wonder what is so wrong with the human body that it needs to  be blurred out if naked? It seems very strange to me that people should think there is something so wrong, evil, or whatever it is they think about our bodies. It's a wonder that all other of Earth's creatures don't make clothes to cover their nakedness!

Agree Alexii, nuffink wrong with the naked human body if well toned and not suffering the excesses of lfe!

Don't really care one way or the other. The real issue to tackle is online bullying and hate posts which I see as a bigger problem.

Whats the answer? Every one who is registered with ANY social media MUST provide valid proof of identity just as one needs to get a passport, drivers license etc. And their REAL names must be used in any posting.

That would bring the trolls up sharp if they knew would be held responsible for what they post on the net.

Years back we had horrible porn popping up that freaked me out. Yes I would like to see porn banned completely. I feel sorry for the young people who are coerced into the making of porn films. Being a parent I couldn't imagine the horror of having a son or daughter or grandchild being involved with porn.

So they don't really have a system in place, thats been tested and found to work well.

What they are doing is calling upon the industry to invent one.

I think they will very likely come up with a system that looks good on the surface, but is easy to bypass.

I cant see this working if it is all self regulated

I would agree proof of age is a start(porn should be banned)but I would also like to see hate mail(putting someone down all the time) filtered out also they say if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen such as some of the so called trolls that get on this site, every one is intitled to thier opinion.

Porn has been around since Adam put his fig leaf on in one form or another. Nude statues, paintings and hundresd of other "art" items were the porn of thier times. The socalled Victorian era with its "moral " values was renowned for its double standards.

Nowadays we ahve so much easy access to internet porn and somuch on our movie screens and Tvs it almost impossible to get away from it unless you are a hermit. And lets not forget the socalled comedians. Just watch some of the comedy shows on tv and see how it all desensitises us to foul language and innuendo.

Please note I'm not a prude or violently against porn. I'm sure it may have its place in society or it wouldn't exist. There are lots of very wierd people out there. Its a jungle!

Agree with Pedro. They are trying to restrict it. Won't work. I remember the dirty post cards we very secretly looked at 70 years ago. As well as serching Mums wardrobe for Doctors (medical) books to firther our curiosity. Personally I got more information than I ever wanted out of my Great Uncles Britannica. Anything less stimulating you would have a hard time to find. So I watch all this with a big grin on my face.

I saw on the news yesterday that there is a new game out about rape and torture -- I THINK this might be the site about it but I am not sure -- ---I ask WHY the hell would this even be allowed -- I tried to buy an interesting educational game for some young girls and there was not one on the market -- but they seem to have all these horror ones --

The horse has already bolted, in today's headlines, a 16 year old boy in Scotland who raped and murdered his 6 year old sister has been sentenced. What took them so long, these measures should have been done decades ago and Australia allowing this to continue is sick.

This is what greeted me at Sunrise breakfast show Xam Mac .. the weather man
