Well, I've finally taken the step to broadband. I've signed up with TPG for ADSL (2+ is not available in my area), $29.95 a month for 8gig - 3 prime time, 5 off time, @ 256/64. Six month contract. A $59.95 set up fee. I'm happy enough with that, will be a vast improvement over what I have at the moment. Will probably take a couple of days for it all to be set up. It says that my uploads won't be included in my monthly usage quota, so I'll have plenty of download. If I want to upgrade my speed in the future, there'll be no charge. First time I've had to use my debit card so that some-one can take money out of my account, but they're a fairly large company, so don't think I'll have any problems there. Just keeping fingers crossed.

Well done Bev...........you will be agreeably impressed with the difference I reckon and the price seems OK too

..

mind you Broadband x 2 is better again but you will have to wait for that ...........

Good for you Bev. The Computer is wonderful for Senior People and at that price (which is what we pay also) good entertainment which is affordable and 24/7 if wanted, so at any time day or night if a person is feeling a bit lonely or down it is just a click away. There is always someone somewhere, or somewhere to go, every minute of the day or night.

You will really enjoy the faster service. Albeit anyone can at least have the computer connected to the net but so many people over even 50 say "I could not do it" or "I know nothing about computers" whereas if they only realise, it is not Rocket Science to just have e-mail and surfing/chat. Others can do heaps more than I can with computers but I get by o.k.

All the best

Phyl.

Just had a look at Whirlpool and they have so many plans from more providers than ever for my area and I am rural Tassie.

so am I. I am with Dodo and have been for years. Was once the only one I could get apart from high priced Telstra.

Is the cheapest and I am out of contract now but staying on month to month until something better comes along - and cheaper! I pay $39.95 a month for ADSL 1500/256 which is fastest available on my exchange. 1.5 GB peak and 1.5 GB off peak. No shaping. Whirlpool show lots of complaints but same for most ISP's if you have a look. Dodo were bad once for tech support but moved it up to Malaysia and it is first rate and quick now. No waiting for hours of days for a call back.
