Centrelink paying back money they owe you

Centrelink is chasing almost 15,000 Australians for debts owed.

Sounds familiar, right? Only this time, the debts are owed by Centrelink.

Services Australia has confirmed that around $697.1 million had been paid back to 402,000 Australians as of 26 October.

Services Australia is still trying to locate around 14,600 people so it can repay monies owed.

Around 3300 people died before they were able to get refunds.

The agency has tried to contact the people multiple times through various methods and it will keep trying, as their is no time limit for them to get in touch in order to be refunded.

“If they contact us we will process their debt,” said Services Australia chief Rebecca Skinner.

Centrelink robo-debt scheme is restarts as of Monday, with 'improved' algorithms that no longer use income averaging as the sole proof for a possible debt.

Are you or were you owed any money from Centrelink?

With the deeming rates what they are and the interest rates zero everybody should be getting a refund from Centrelink. My investments are actually earning around $1,500 a year. Centrelink acknowledge them as being nearly $7,000 a year due to Deeming, thus a way lower pension.  Thank you very much Centrelink. A sinking Jacka.

Wake up Jacka, the $7k from deeming isn't dictating your Pension, the asset test is, so the deeming rate for you is irrelavant.

If you have too much cash put it under the bed as PM Fraser advised way back in 1982/3 before he was replaced by Bob Hawke. Find a better way myself - I am spending it (or like to when the borders open again).

BS, if you are single and deeming is $7000 pa, then your Pension would be asset tested as you would have app $355k in finacial assets to be deemed at $7k PA, so deeming rates mean nothing to you.

No Einstein McDaddy. Around $355K correct. Deeming return as estimated by Centrelink, around $7K correct. Actual return in current economic climate, around $1500. Actual pension reduced by a number of thousands of dollars per annum. This is reality McDaddy, wake up.

They have been robbing people blind with these over the top deeming rates --- deeming people to be getting more than they are - I know of many self-funded retirees that have lost a LOT of money because of being deemed wrong -- over MANY years

The Government takes NO notice and just poli talk!

Then Plan B you have no idea how deeming works and how it impacts the Pension.

Jacka To further iilustrate my point and single homeowner who has $355k being deemed, will result in app $7k PA of income paying an Age Pension of $900.08/ftn (max rate is $944.30/ftn)

Add to that $355k a car of $10k and contents of $5k, and total assets are $370k, paying an Age Pension of $638.30/ftn.

Income Test (deeming) $900.08/ftn

Asset Test $638.30/ftn you tell me now how deeming rates are impacting Genius?

Poor old McDaddy, even a simpleton can understand that the more income deemed by Centrelink, results in a lower pension payment. If there deeming an amount at 2.5 percent and you're receiving 1% or .5% or 0%, you're receiving hell of a lot less then they deem it to be. That is how deeming works. If they deem $10,000 in shares at two and a half percent and you actually receive 12% you're a winner. I think it's time for you to pack up your building blocks and go to bed it's been a long day. Jacka.

Is Deeming done on your assets or money you have

It's levied against Finacial assets only

Poor old Jacka is a moron, can't even grasp simple concepts, thinks the deeming on his money is impacting his pension, funnyy thing is dickhead, if you were getting 12% you would not get any nore Pension than you are now, due to the asset test. You desrve to live in the dark. I'm out.

Please stop the abuse mcdaddy. You are belittling yourself.

You're out, best news I've heard all day. You must give you a financial advisor a headache with your novel views on finances and your potty mouth. Sweet dreams. Jacka.

Unfortunately I have to deal with lots of people like you who think they understand things, but don't. Give Centrelink a call and ask them if deeming is impacting you, then let us know the result.

Narcissist.?

Fuck off johnboy.

You 2 Mc fucken daddy. up yours you narcissist prick.

"Are you or were you owed any money from Centrelink?"

Yep, and it was paid in promptly, all $1.00 of it.  LOL   Probably cost more to process it.

No, I am not owed -- but there are many that are and also MANY that have ended their lives because of this unforgivable stuff up who can not be repaid -- this government should ashamed and kicked out -- not that we have much better -- they are all in it to line their own pockets and I am over the lot of them
