Check your eggs: another salmonella warning issued

A product recall has been issued for egg products sold around Australia.

Products affected include Cage Free Eggs 700g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 700g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 800g and Loddon Valley Barn Laid 600g (VIC and SA only).

Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued the warning due to potential microbial salmonella contamination.

Food products contaminated with salmonella can cause severe illness if eaten.

Any people concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Thanks Ben.

Thanks for the warning Ben - I have been getting mine from the local farm and also from a friend that has their own chooks

I buy free range fm local farm shop at local IGA - wonderful eggs fresh chilled in the shop and keep fresh in fridge for a while.

Now fresh eggs drop into the pan with a perfect yolk standing up ringed by perfect circle of white.

Stale eggs, and the yolk sits flat and the white spreads all over the place.

Coles chill their eggs like IGA

But Woolworths never do, yet charge full price!

Be warned that this egg recall is because of a different strain of salmonella. Usually the salmonella contaminates the shell and is transferred to the content when the shell is broken. In this current call back, the egg itself is contaminated not the shell. The advice extends to not feeding the egg to pets. Throw the eggs away in the rubbish bins, do not compost them. Or return them for a refund.

Thank you KSS, was wondering how the eggs become contaminated:)

More brands of eggs recalled as salmonella outbreak continues

Products impacted for the recall include Blue Mountains Free Range Eggs 700g, Blue Mountains Cage Free Eggs 700g, Fresh Eggs From My Farm 800g, Farm Fresh Eggs 600g, 700g, 800g and single sticker eggs with a best before date 26/April/19 and 3/May/19.

"The Australian egg industry is scrambling to maintain consumer confidence with yet another egg recall for possible salmonella contamination announced on Saturday.

It’s the third recall of potential salmonella contamination in as many weeks, with the New South Wales Food Authority warning eggs sold in two Australian states have been withdrawn from food retailers.

Synergy Produce is recalling six and 12 packs of Southern Highland Organic Eggs with best-before dates up to and including May 9.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the NSW Food Authority stated on its website.

Supermarket shelves in NSW and Victoria are clearing Southern Highland Organic Eggs in response to the recall.

The eggs have been available for sale in Woolworths in NSW and Victoria, as well as IGA and other independent retailers in NSW."

Hmm!!

Now even organic eggs are affected ?

I could understand the barn laid and the caged eggs .... thought it may have been associated with the food they were giving the fowls.

Thanks Abby.

Authorities have caught up with the egg tamperer.
