Yes, we were so naive in our earlier days.  I did smoke for a couple of years but I was more a social smoker...only when I had the occasional drink.  Was no bother for me to give up when I was 28.

Hubby has joined the Asbestos group "just in case something happens".  He did a lot of electrical/plumbing  work which entailed being exposed to asbestos in his early 20's and 30's.  So far no problem but these things often dont show up until many many years later.

Yes I was also exposed to Asbestos in the 1948 to 1953  and they knew about it then and b4 but kept it quite and were still using it into the early 1980s -- and some places are still using it -- with the workers that the 457 visas it is a bloody disgrace and we have a high up politician that used to work in the area of holding out for Hardy's till people died -- the     "Honourable"????  Julie Bishop

We were all exposed to asbestos in one way or another since it was in building materials, brake linings, driveway fill, fire ropes lining fire stoves etc. Still lots of it around floating into the environment.

I often drive past streets in the centre of town and there are old homes with "peeling" asbestos roofs.

Wrote a letter to our local paper a few years ago but it never saw the light of day.

Glad I don't leave in that particular area myself.

Also SOME builders when making renovation just cchuck it anywhere and NEVER report it -- we had one around here that did it a few time -- he now has Mesothelioma, I hope his young workers don't get it.
