Coles have revealed on Friday they are ditching plastic shopping bags, just hours after major competitor Woolworths announced the same ban.

I have an aquaintance who has a small retaill business. She supplies reusable shopping bags, emblazoned with her business name, for her customers purchases. She tells me the bags cost her business 34 cents each. Similar bags in Coles, Woolies and other places are for sale at about a dollar each. Seems that being an environmentally aware business can be a good money spinner

Yes Eddy that what it is all about -- THEM making MORE money --- nothing else -- as cutting out the bags IS NOT GOING TO DO A THING with all the rest of the  plastics out there

We use the plastic bags in our kitchen tidy and also the bathroom tidy, also handy for packing shoes and dirty washing when travelling. If we didnt have these plastic bags we would be forced to either buy plastic garbage bags, more money for the supermarkets, or else put our garbage in the bin without being bagged. SO can anyone tell me what the difference is between using plastic bags for our garbage or buying plastic garbage bags. Thats right, NO DIFFERENCE, just more money in someones pocket. Pensioners screwed again

The only difference I can see Mike is the ones we purchase are much bigger and stronger.

The bags in the supermarkets are always split and items are falling out.

If we didn't have shopping trolleys to take the goods to the car I doubt they would last a walk home from the shops or a ride on the bus back to the home.

Yes Mike that has been my point and I have written to Chanel 10 re this --- as they are the ones that seemed to start this madness -- no answer and also the big stores are all for it because it is going to save THEM money -- they don't care a hoot about anything else  -- I am all for saving the wildlife but there are many other things even worse than the bags -- and they are still going to SELL them
