Cooking bacon

anyone know the secret to cooking bacon so it remains soft, rather than turning into leather?

I agree

Not too fussed about bacon, give me southern style pork ribs any day - yum yum

"Vegan activists have struck out at meat eaters by plastering meat products being sold in supermarkets with disturbing stickers warning against animal consumption.

The Daily Telegraph found that the people behind the war on meat campaign were members of vegan and animal rights group Anonymous for the Voiceless.

Products in both Coles and Woolworths were targeted, with confronting stickers resembling cigarette warning labels stuck front and centre on numerous items."

Some choose to eat heaps of junk food and drink sugary drinks, others choose not to and eat very strict diets, some are vegan and there are others who are picky about what they ingest."

It is not up to anyone, in my opinion, to go around supermarkets putting stickers over products which are perfectly legal to be sold.

People can make up their own minds what they eat and not have others ideas forced upon them.

Products advertising meat/dairy/eggs are highly offensive to vegans but we don't have a choice to not see them.  Every meal you eat is a choice between kindness and health or violence and possible cancer.  Think about who is really the extremist.

It is very easy to avoid the aisles these days as they are all marked.  I only go down the aisles where I need to purchase.

I'm talking KFC/McDonalds/Australia Day Lamb etc etc.  Look around you, it's more than the actual product in the meat aisle.

There has been an increase in vegarianism to just over 9% but the majority of people (90%) are not....Australia I am talking about.

The thread on “ Brits put on a Stict diet” offers some interesting information on the benefits of a Mediterranean diet especially for older members .

I try to follow   the Mediterranean diet to as large extent.  We only eat lamb and the occasional piece of pork.   Steak is something we have lost the taste for and rarely buy it or eat it when out.  Probably once a week we eat meat.

Both of us are in excellent health for our ages.

The vegetable section of the supermarket is huge and in your face as soon as you enter

should have it in a separate section with its own entrance so as not to offend the carnivores

Hmmm so no one has the answer huh?  You can try Darcie - cooking rashers of bacon between two pieces of paper towel in ya micro-wave? For like 90 secs?  Depending..........

May or may not work - used to years ago ..... however - bacon is not like is used to be - revolting lately and like "leather" to start with!   Cheers    :-)

Nothing wrong with the bacon. When you get really old tastebuds get fewer and fewer and it's like leather if you've got no teeth, hmm

Foxy  than,ks for that .  I have tried the microwave. Not too bad.   But I think you're right that the quality is pretty awful

I rather like this microwave method with kitchen paper similar to what Foxy suggests

Love the heart shaped pattern.

The bacon for sale here is already cooked so you are drying it out by more cooking.

Sometime the supermarkets have European style which is smoked only.

Yep double smoked. The kind of bacon which hasnt been pumped with moisture so as to make it heavier on the scales.

I just use the lid on/off principle.

I tried it lid on    not bad.

I tried this once and it worked for me too Toot.  I will do the same way next time I have bacon.........which is pretty rare.
