Coronavirus lockdown thread

Hi everyone... News is coming in now about lockdowns in both NSW and VIC - see https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-22/coronavirus-nsw-victoria-shutdown-non-essential-services/12079124

"The NSW and Victorian Governments will proceed to a more comprehensive shutdown of non-essential services over the next 48 hours in attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Key points:

  • The shutdowns in Victoria and NSW will not effect supermarkets, pharmacies and banks
  • Victoria will bring forward school holidays to begin on Tuesday
  • The Government will also consider locking down COVID-19 "red zones", as has been done in Wuhan and parts of Europe

Supermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies, convenience stores, freight and logistics, and home delivery will be among the many services that will remain open."

Stay safe everyone - we will try to keep this thread updated as more news comes in.

Western Australia closes its state borders from Tuesday

Western Australia is closing its borders to all travellers from 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Anyone arriving after that date will have to self-isolate for 14 days — and it appears, from the way they are describing it, that the quarantine may occur at the point of entry.

South Australia too:

SA introduces restrictions in the 'interest of public health'

Earlier today, the SA Government declared a "major emergency" and announced it will establish 12 border crossings where travellers will be required to sign a declaration about their health and ability to undertake mandatory self-isolation for two weeks.

Those measures will come into effect from 4:00pm on Tuesday.

It comes as South Australia records its 100th case of coronavirus — an increase of 33 from Saturday.

Too little action too late. We should have shut our national border over a month ago when we had few cases but knew the toll this virus is taking in other countries, especially Italy, China and Iran. It won't make much difference now to shut state borders because this virus has already taken off in our country. Will only get worse from here.

If it was not for the Ruby Princess debarcle ... we would be in a better position

Yes of all countries Australia and NZ should have been the easiest of countries to protect their citizens being islands.   Now we have the cruise ships to thank for the ever increasing cases.

Once again the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.

PM From the national Cabinet

Indoor and Outdoor Public gatherings

National Cabinet agreed to limit both indoor and outdoor gatherings to two persons only.

Exceptions to this limit include:

People of the same household going out together;Funerals - a maximum of 10 people; Wedding - a maximum of 5 people;Family units.

Individual states and territories may choose to mandate and/or enforce this requirement.

National Cabinet’s strong guidance to all Australians is to stay home unless for:

shopping for what you need - food and necessary supplies;medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements;exercise in compliance with the public gathering requirements;work and study if you can’t work or learn remotely.

National Cabinet agreed that playgrounds, skate parks and outside gyms in public places will be closed. Bootcamps will be reduced to two persons, including the trainer.

I think WA closure happens at midnight tonight
