Could this be the most expensive divorce in history?

The richest man – and possibly couple – alive, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie are have been married for 25 years, but have now decided to go separate ways.

“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” the 54-year-old wrote on Twitter.

The split is seemingly on good terms, with Jeff noting: “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”

The entrepreneur has an estimated net worth of over $US136 billion ($A189 billion), making him the richest person alive, eclipsing Microsoft founder Bill Gates by tens of billions of dollars. He’s also the first person in modern history to amass a fortune of more than $US100 billion ($136 billion).

But he's famously humble, washing the dishes every night and never scheduling early morning meetings so he can make breakfast for his kids.

His soon to be ex-wife, MacKenzie, 48, is a novelist who supported Jeff’s business by initially working as an accountant for the start-up.

Their divorce could be the most expensive separations in history.

I think it would be timely to set up a $2b fund to support the homeless prior to the divorce so that they both have an opportunity to share the joy of what it acheives.

I assume that the couple give money to charities anyway. Sounds like a good idea

Hardly a necessity in this case.

Last September, Jeff took to Twitter to announce that he and MacKenzie were setting aside $US2 billion ($AU2.7 billion) to finance a new non-profit, the Day One Families Fund, which would help the homeless and set up a network of Montessori schools in impoverished communities.

Hopefully, they will both sort it out over the kitchen table (so to speak).  That would be best for them and their family and friends.  It is something they are trying to do.  25 years of marriage is not a failure and each can take good things away from it.

All the very best to both for the future.

Just because he does the dishes and makes time for his kids does not make him humble, how about paying your slaves (workers) more. So the wife was the one with all the money brains so she should get a good payout. I wonder what the real reason is behind their separation, maybe the money went ot Bezo's head.

This my be "fake"news ! But he has apparently found a new girlfriend, much younger than his wife!

Don't they always, like I said money goes to the head.

Perhaps cougars have the right approach. Marry someone much younger than yourself!

Umpteen presentable and available women of all ages at the local yacht and boat clubs.  None understand why the men are so uninterested in 'relationship' and 'commitment'.  Maybe the men have learned a thing or two from feminism :)
