buy nothing sign

What a great outcome for this lady...good on her!!

If more young people did it maybe they could come up with a deposit for a home!

lol - saw that - I could do it easily - easily!  In fact I purchased very little in 2016 (other than gifts etc.) for my family and friends!

When it's my Birthday - Xmas - Mother's Day etc. - I get all I need!  I just pay bills - do online shopping (Woolworths) -  pay for lunch/drinks out now and then ...that's it for me! Treat myself to a "few food goodies" when I feel like it .........bloody boring I guess? lol lol

I have so many clothes - jewellery - etc. etc. - far more than I need if I really think about it!  Crazy!

I NEED to do it Foxy...whether I could...mmmm....if I went to Antarctica for a year maybe ;)

But I have not spent as much this year as in past years I must say that.

Strange article and headline.

She DID spend money.

Maybe the headline and this article title should read "Woman stops wasting money".

School is in!!

Politicians spend their pathetic careers in this manner, with the taxpayer picking up the tab.

How much does nothing cost?

More than you could ever afford.

Now this concept excites me - given that I've been focused on clearing out my home recently of "excess stuff", all the whole thinking about how much money I've wasted.

Totally agree CindyLou.  I am sure many of us would agree that over our lifetime money has been spent on unnecessary "things".

i dont think i could do it,   i dont have much spare money,  but what i do have i love to spend,  esp, on a new dvd or piece of music,    have a great ladies fashion shop,   who has great bargains,   so makes it hard NOT to buy,

Yes I could and have.

Yep, I can and have also in the past when all the income went on high mortgage rates, bills and repairs for bomb cars.

in years gone by,   when trying to pay bills and rear three children,    we  had to save,   but these days if i have anything left over,  [which isnt often]    its nice to have a treat ,    my husband is a great saver,   and he doesnt begrudge me the bit i spend,    which is just as well,   as id spend it anyway,  lol, lol,

Cats, I look at it this way;  we are getting towards the end of our lives and I have done my scrimping and saving.  If we want anything we have it.  If we want a meal out we have it and if we want to go on a holiday we go.

Have seen too many people begrudge themselves when there was no need to do so.  '

If you can afford to have what you want then have it....there are no prizes for being the richest man in the cemetery.

my thought exactly RADISH,   my mother never spent money on anything she didnt need to,    and what she did spend was begrudged,  no matter what it was for,    she saved every penny,   and was one of the  most miseable people i have known,  i would hate to be like  she was,     it did her no good as she had a stroke and was left blind and couldnt do anything for herself,   she never left hospital,   so her money did her no good in the end,      BUT,    my father had a ball with all the money  she had left,    he only lived about 8 years after her,   but he died happy,        we have what we need,  like most people of our age,    we pay into a funeral und so the kids wont be left to bury us,   so i say we should enjoy what we have,  while we can,
