Crown Casino and poker machines

So ex-employees are saying they were told to:

  • Staff were told to remove betting options from pokies
  • Crown regularly reset machines' memory to reduce returns to players
  • Staff were instructed to use different player ID cards when processing transactions over $10,000, to avoid reporting to AUSTRAC, the national anti-money laundering agency
  • Punters soiled themselves while betting, and Crown provided them with clean clothes so they could continue gambling
  • Crown also ordered staff to "shave down" buttons on gaming machines to allow illegal continuous play on the machines, the former workers said."

I have some knowledge of how much is actually returned to punters via poker machines and it is not much at all.  The casino is always the winner.  Anyone who plays them and expects to make money has rocks in their heads.

The only game to play is Blackjack....or have a dollar or two on keno.   And be prepared to lose all the money you take there.  If you are not, just don't gamble.

Agree Rad, blackjack is the only game to play, but you need to know when to go to the loo.

Looks as if the Crown Cassino will have to pay extra tax

.... as no way will they take their license of them.

Agree Suze...hell will freeze over before the Government kills the golden goose.  A fine of a million or so may be the penalty, but who knows.

The greed of these gambling joints knows no bounds..not content with a winning hand they seek to cheat and lie to fill their coffers..where's the oversight?

If gambling was fair then it would die off.

The pokies are grief machines.   They are certainly rigged by the venues as I have watched people loose so much money it makes you sick in the stomach.   People are committing suicide and the government does not care.    The help given to problem gamblers by the government is useless, I have tried going thru  the gambling help line and to the point of seeing a councillor, hopeless.  The government is making heaps and so to are the venues.   I would like to know who sets the machines and what % is given back to the customer?????

Oh......... really?   and I'm guessing all the people with their comments on here have NEVER been to Crown Casino?  Right???  Just ridiculous comments - from those who "think they know"??? lol

Too boring and conservative to even "have a life - or even get one"! lol lol lol

Well - I have been to Crown here in Melbourne - 3 times - after going to the amazing luxury  Seafood Restaurant there for my birthday with my son and his friends!

Guess what???   I have WON on the poker machines every time....every time!  My biggest win was $1,750!  For a $50 bet!   My smallest win was $580 ($50 bet) .......... with my winnngs I actually paid for "parking/dinner" - 'cause my gorgeous son gave me the $50 to start with  (as an added bit of fun for my birthday!)...................

.... you people have no fun in your life and just like to malign everyone who does!   Pathetic!

Well you are a lucky person, give us your secret.   I know people who have lost thousands on pokies due to being addicted to them.   They started like you won a bit then got into the rut of going on a regular basis.   Once they get hold of you the addiction gets worse.   My statement is that the government does not really help these people they get sent to a councilor who in turn has no answer.   The government wants us to keep on loosing as they are getting big bucks from them.

.... there is no secret Jannie - just "lucky" as you said ... of course the punters are not meant to win - but - you can just walk up to one - stick in $20 and either lose it - or win!   Who knows how much had been put into it before I won?   ....... .....   :-)

What amazes me on the rare occasions I have been to Crown for dinner (then "hit" the gaming floor....) is the hundreds of people there and the amount of notes they are putting into the machines!

Apparently people can easily sell their car in any of the carparks for half the price to unscrupulous "cash dealers"  - for some "quick gambling money"!   This has been a known fact for years..............

That was a very loving gesture from your son Foxy. Thanks for providing that valuable insight from first hand experience. Those conservative nutters on here wouldnt even know what a prawn looked like!! LOL!!!

Gambling is fun eh????? Some fun!!!! Very easy to get hopelessly addicted to this sort of "fun."

Australians are the world's most prolific gamblers, based on per capita spending. In 2016, Australians lost more money per person -- an average of US $990 -- than any other developed country, according to research by consultancy H2 Gambling Capital. In comparison, runner-up Singapore lost $650 per person, and Ireland, which came third, $500.

It starts with the pokie machines then progresses and ends up with many suicides, loss of jobs, health problems, erratic behaviour. Ambulances are a regular feature at casinos.

Go back to ya' tomb Eygptian "stick man"  lol lol lol

What was I saying about "erratic behaviour?"

I rest my case.

Australia hardly leaps to mind as a gambling hotbed. Yet industry insiders know it is far and away their most lucrative market: according to H2 Gambling Capital (H2G), a consultancy, betting losses per resident adult there amounted to $990 last year. That is 40% higher than Singapore, the runner-up, and around double the average in other Western countries.

The most popular form of gaming in Australia is on ubiquitous electronic poker machines, or “pokies”, which are more prevalent there than anywhere else. Although the devices are legal in many other markets, bet sizes are usually capped at modest levels. By contrast, in Australia, which began to deregulate the industry in the 1980s, punters can lose as much as $1,150 an hour.

Perhaps other countries do not have as generous welfare system ???

Wonder who is using up my share of $990 ?

In total I would spend $100 if that on gambling.

I have an acquaintance who goes to the casino in Perth quite regularly.  She always wins!!!!!!...or so she tells everyone...we all take it with a grain of salt.  She is very addicted...would hate to think how much she has lost over time.

Like you Suze someone is spending my share...the most I spend is $20 on the very, very rare occasion I go there and it is always on Keno.   I know before I set foot in the place that the likelihood of walking out with more than I go in is very remote.

I want to try live poker. I see many casinos are introducing this feature recently. It must be very exciting to play with a live dealer conduction the game in real-time? Who tried it? I am looking at this site richprize.com/games/amatic. Their terms look not bad. But I think will start with small investments not to lose very much money. I need some experience first.

I can never make sense of putting money through a machine --even walking past to get to the dining area is enough to turn me off -- never been in a casino and have no wish to ever be.

A landmark inquiry has found Crown Resorts, Australia's largest casino operator, is not suitable to hold a gaming licence in Sydney.

It puts into question whether Crown will be able to open its already-built casino in Australia's largest city.

Crown has spent A$2.2bn (£1.2bn; $1.7bn) on its new gaming complex which began operating its hotel and retail spaces in December.

It has been dogged by allegations of illegal activity for years.

Commissioner Patricia Bergin - a former judge- concluded that Crown should only be approved for its new Barangaroo tower casino on Sydney Harbour if it made radical reforms, including the sacking of its executive team.

Two directors quit on Wednesday over the findings which confirm money laundering and organised crime links.

Crown is now also facing calls from some lawmakers for its casino licences in Melbourne and Perth to be suspended. The firm has halted trading on the Australian Securities Exchange.
