Cyclones

I have only been in one cylcone on a boat three days out of Fremantle in Feb 1954 on our way to the UK.  At the age of nine I thought it great fun, so did a few other children.  Our parents were in their cabins, sick.

Now I read this Cat 4 Cyclone about to hit Queensland.

Monster Cyclone Debbie upgraded to a Category 4 storm just hours before it makes landfall - as 25,000 residents are urged to evacuate Queensland city amid predictions it could get WORSE

Forecasters have warned Cyclone Debbie (centre) could intensify after it was upgraded to a Category 4 storm just hours before it makes landfall on Tuesday morning. The Bureau of Meteorology upgraded the system at 8pm AEST on Monday as authorities urged 25,000 people in Mackay in North Queensland (bottom right) to evacuate in case of a tidal surge. BoM forecaster Brett Harrison said the cyclone could develop into a Category 5 system. 'At this stage we can't rule out a category five system during the coming hours,' Mr Harrison said. Cyclone Debbie is expected to hit the coast just south of Bowen at 8am Tuesday ahead of a high tide at 9.44am.

Bit of an overview.

From Brisbane Times.

The BOM says we will get the aftermath here (GC) tomorrow, Friday/Saturday. Have altered some plans accordingly. Family due to fly to NZ Saturday from GC, should be 'all over Red Rover' by then hopefully.

Good map RnR thank you for posting.

Wow

I hope the Australian Insurance companies dont have to pay out too much

As emergency services build a picture of the destruction wrought by Cyclone Debbie, 65,000 remain without power and Mackay may have only 24 hours of clean water remaining.

Thanks Debbie. You are a such big ar** gel ... so bloody persistent and taking up so much valuable space.

........ Thurs. a.m.    No tap water in Bowen!  Virgin - Jetstar and Qantas - preparing to evacuate 3,000 plus tourists throughout the islands .....

...idiots still trying to drive thru' water (needing to be rescued!!) ... and the absolute "scum low-life's" have started looting homes and businesses!    Gotta "hate " certain people ......!

Anyone know how the animals are doing?  Only story today was of the Cocky that was rescued ...   :-)

I regret not taking photos of the signs people put up after Tracy...there were some very direct comments at what would happen to Looters!!  The signs were painted on the walls of houses etc.

This was the sight that greeted us on Christmas morning...

So devastating Radish. Went to the museum when we were up in Darwin and spent most of our time there in the Cyclone Tracy section.

Teeming with rain here at the moment. Going to last well into the weekend they're saying now. Schools all closed, highway at a standstill near my place, people being urged to stay home and businesses to close early, flash flooding occurring.

And the poor people up north are only getting some relief from the rain this morning and of course it's still flooding.

Hope you stay safe RnR, seem to be a number of Queenslanders on here hope you all have no problems either.

Thanks Viv, OK here. Still raining heavily. Worse to come this afternoon/evening apparently, with storms and wind. Midday here now.

terrible scenes on the news tonight,     can olny imagine what it would be like in the middle of all that,      thankfully there have been np reports of any deaths,  [that i have heard of]      and hope everyone keeps safe,
