Did a 1981 Dean Koontz thriller predict the coronavirus outbreak? Readers share extracts from novel which chillingly refers to deadly viral infection named after Wuhan

  • Koontz novel The Eyes Of Darkness describes a killer virus named 'Wuhan-400'
  • The fictional virus was developed as a bioweapon in Wuhan research lab
  • Coronavirus first emerged from the same Chinese city in December 2019
  • However there are several big differences between the novel and real life
  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

Oh do stop spreading fake news and conspiracy theories.

In a one word answer NO. 'Eyes of Darkness' is a work of fiction, it is no more predictive than the writings of 'futurists' like Nostradamus and others. This notion has no more validity than reading tea leaves, tarot cards, palm reading, examining the entrails of some unfortunate animal or any other means of predicting the future.

It has been reported that the author originally based the story in Gorki in USSR but in 1986, when relations between the USA and USSR thawed under Gorbeshev, it was decided to change the location to Wuhan in China so as not to cause any offence to our new friends, the Russians.

Simple question , why pick Wuhan out of a large basket of names???

Yes, Eddy..that's the story I know....

Fair go --I just saw this article -- and thought it odd -- I was just asking -- no need to be nasty
