Disgusting behaviour!

A woman licking ice cream and putting it back on shelves in USA and another moron gargling mouthwash in Walmart and splitting back in bottle and putting back on shelf.

Talk about low lifes! I hope they both get long prison sentences. The first one has been caught and no doubt they will get the "gargler".

No doubt we will get copycats over here before long. I won't be taking from the front of the shelf.

How different is that sort of behaviour to people in our supermarkets who handle a number of fruits before selecting one, spreading all their germs over them.

In spite that a lot of people complain about too much packaging I prefer to have my fruit protected from hundreds of people handling and sniffing them.

It is disgusting that people would do such things to unopened products what scum!

Thing is who knows who packed the fruits etc -- I always wash everything I buy in fruit and Veg -- even if it has to be cut open -- because cutting exposes the inner to whatever in on the outside --

Unfortunately whilst people take a sickie if they have the flu but then they are well enough to go shopping.

Yes I agree with you PlanB

always wash your fruit and vegies you purchase ... you also do not know what theyy have been sprayed with.

the supermarkets are going to have a lot of wastage if they dont use plastic packaging...wonder what they will use in its place to cover, for instance, meat!  cannot see it just being placed out on display without a covering...no way I would buy it if it was not

I recall as a young lad going to the fruiterer with my dad. You werent allowed touch anything, that went for the adults as well. A 'Con the fruiterer' type of friendly character would gently place your choice into a brown paper bag and with the skill of a circus performer made that bag do two swings as he manaufactured two ears on that bag. I was always mesmerised by the skill. He'd grab a carefully selected apple, polish it and bending down, present it to me as a clown would a bunch of pop up flowers as he said..'here you go son,' his gold tooth gleaming in the sunlight. I think it is with so many changes we often come to realise that the little things were the big things.

That's a beaut story Adrianus, I have tears i my eyes. We had a Con the fruiterer too, only trouble was, he was a real con man, wanted by the Melbourne cops and using his shop as a front LOL

Adrianus, I really enjoyed that little glimpse into the past too.  You have quite a talent in the way to tell a story.  I wonder do you dabble in writing?  If you don't, maybe you should. :)  Or who knows, with the internet being the anonymous little playground that it is, maybe you are already an accomplished author.

Either way, thanks for the morning's smile.

Adrianus, nothing beats the customer service from the past. It prevented customers from helping themselves, spoiling and contaminating the merchandise.

In woolworths Earlville shopping center  last Friday I watched a woman squeeze every loaf that was not wrapped but had a paper band around it, We always buy our bread, fruit and vegetables in pre packed plastic , for protection, We know we may be destroying the planet but want to live germ free.

I don’t open bottles and use the contents in supermarkets and find that behaviour pretty disgusting. Neither do I open packets of biscuits, eat the contents then throw it back on the shelf. This is what contributes to prices going up as it is the same as shoplifting.

However I will say to Suze that handing loose products such as fruit and for example zucchini, is necessary to check for bruising or fingernail marks. I’m very careful and I usually look over the goods first to avoid unecessary handling but I can’t see how a ‘non touch’ technique is going to give me firm produce otherwise. Do you have psychic powers then Suze that tell  you which produce to choose?

Flippit, can we PLEASE stop using the term "shoplifting."  The word you were looking for is STEALING or if you prefer THIEVING.

As for people touching the food, opening jars and packets etc, sadly I find Aldi one of the worst places.  You have to check everything when you pick it up to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

Watched a woman in Aldi open every bag of grapes and take a few out to eat.  Another woman in Woolworths swapped every egg in a el cheapo pack for far more expensive free range eggs.  And of course the people who give their kids lollies, chips biscuits to eat while they do the rounds and don't keep the packet to pay at the end.  Supermarkets would save millions if they stopped the thieving.

We had a con the fruiterer too. Me too!

He did the rounds of the farms up to about 80klm from his base. His truck was a short dodge of a deep blue tinged with red. Its little tray was roofed and heshian bags gird its three open sides. The days were hot and he kept these always wet. Inside was a jewelbox of wonderful fruit and vegetables.

His arrival was a joyful occasion.

It was not that we didn't have fruit. Our 20 acre household orchard and large vegetable gardens supplied us well and all year round but he always had some fantastic things we didn't have. Could have been something exotic or simply a terrific watermelon when we had scoffed the last or our own.

Friendly and knowledgeable, a fruit and vegetable perfectionist.

PS

What has happened to watermelons? Admittedly you do get a decent one every now and then but they are all balls. Where are the great long ones that would feed a family and friends and which seemed perfect at least 95, times out of 100 not 5 times out of a 100.

We used to grow the most delicious Candy Red watermelons, long and pale green.  Red volcanic soil and plenty of humus tilled in before. Touch one with a knife when ripe and it would crack open.

The woman must be one of those human salamanders who have invaded earth from another planet. Her tongue should have stuck to the frozen ice cream.

This Perth shoplifter thought better of stealing a takeaway hot spaghetti, haha, putting it down his pants not such a good idea.

Stills from the security vision of the attempted shoplifter trying to hide hot pasta down his pants.

Stealing is bad, yes, but this young man should not have to steal cooked food.

In a country as rich as ours, everyone should have the means to have  meal.

There are plenty of those grubs around here. From empty takeaway coffee cups thrown on shelves or fruit stacks to bags of lollies and chips opened and left behind.

Recently came across an underpants 3 pack that was reduced to 2 by some grub who had nicked a pair!!

It is already happening specially those parents with kids. They will let their kids eat chocolates and lollies or any foods on bite size then leave the wrappers behind. It was the kid and they will appear innocent if someone saw it on the surveillance camera. Not only kids, there are also lots of adults who are avoiding to pay for what they eat and maybe not AWARE they are being watched. Lots of thins happening inside the store or supermarket plus the black and white juvenile gangs doing grab and snatch. Australia is not the same as when I first came here before. Everything changes from the citizens to the politicians who are pretending to serve the country but only doing it for personal interest.

This one needs a kick up the behind and a few days in the cooler.

Whilst shopping at Coles recently, i noticed a very well dressed lady thieving herself a full free handful of sugar coated macadamia nuts. Then casually eating them as she did her little shopping. i followed her down a few aisles and to my amazement this low life returned for another hand ful of these macadamias! I did report the the thieving low life!

Now get this! While unpacking my groceries in the boot of my car, this low life walks past me and gently eases herself into a magnificent Porsche Carrera! Maybe if all did this thieving, just maybe, we could be driving fancier Cars!

It is disgusting yes. What I find annoying is customers who open some products to smell the products Always check the  product packages on shelf before  removing an item to place  into my basket, Once  a liquid item  spilled on the floor before I realized  the bottle  had beeb opened. Cannot people just look at the ingredients before purchasing?
