Where to Tedwalker...?lol

This will do me...Lay me in the vegie patch in the family garden plot .

A lovely comfortable bed, lots of sunlight, lots of moisture so I wont get all dry and crinkly,

My kids can enjoy the fruits of their labour,

and I will always be a part of them when I am gone.... :)

Cranky -  Now that looks like a lovely resting plot, lets hope the family dog doesn't decided to do some digging around trying to find his bones.

And cranky, if you take your mobile phone with you, you'll be able to keep us up to date with developments in the underworld.

Red Devil

You are the official Halloween threadmaster Tedwalker....

Congratulations...lololol...

This country was built on great British traditions. Why do people want to impose a foreign culture here?

Why ?.....Why not?...

I don't think we are going to jeopardise the worlds traditions with a fun thread full of .ghouls and boys ....do you...?

Thought it would go over some people's heads. There's one.

It is widely believed that many Halloween (aka All Hallows’ Evening, Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, All Saints' Eve) traditions originated in the British Isles from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianised as Halloween.

If it’s based on old British Isles traditions … what’s the problem?

More info here, here and here.

Yes, it was originally Celtic. But any older Australian with any memory at all knows Halloween was not commemorated here in our youth. (The big event at that time of year was Guy Fawkes night - 5th Nov if you've forgotten.)

The ONLY reason it is now an event here is because of American TV shows and films, combined with commercial pressures for lolly (sweet) sales and costume hire. It's big business here, not a Celtic festival at all.

:) Can’t remember ever celebrating Guy Fawkes night in November but can certainly remember cracker night on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June. The last cracker night in NSW was on June 7, 1986.

I don’t care where celebrations come from really. All of them are commercialised and ‘monetised’ to me these days, e.g. Christmas, Easter, birthdays, anniversaries, Australia Day, etc. but I still enjoy them because of my family and having time and fun with them whatever the occasion.

Good on you RnR...I also celebrate everything...for me life is one long celebration.

Last year I celebrated Festival of Lights with some Hindu friends and had a ball...

Did Festival of Lights come here via Hollywood?

Do you never feel you're being manipulated?

DONY YOU HAVE ANY JOY IN YOU AT ALL BARAK,   ?      YOU MUST BE THE DULLEST KILL JOY IVE EVER HEARD,

I don't enjoy having my car egged and my garden trashed, which seems to be part of the "joy" of Halloween".

I have heeps of fun. Australia doesn't need Halloween.

And we don't need killjoys who send lighthearted threads spinning into oblivion because they cannot abide members having a little dabble in the fun bin..

Why don't you find some old codgers of your choice who are likeminded Barak and get your kicks from a mutual admiration society, it may fill your life with something to keep you occupied instead of your need to disrupt every topic with a Q&A inquisition.

You will be no friends Barak soon, as you outdo your welcome and yes, in my comment you are the topic..with a friendly suggestions that you give us all a break and either join in and give us the benefit of your hidden humour or go for a nap... :)

It's not all positive out there guys. Your sycophantic adherence to the commercial world's drive also allows the "trick" part of "trick or treat" to happen. It's vandalism!

I am not against fun.

I am against bad behaivour, AND commercial American traditions taking over Australia's cutlure.

And nothing you, I or anyone else do in YLC will change the worlds altering traditions and culture .But what we can do is enjoy what we have and share a little friendly conversing without the need for the heavy who done it, when and why is it so...?

I watch closely at peoples input and I know that you do have a sense of humour that surfaces now and again Barak, so roll up your sleeves and show us your funny bone...

BARAK,    i dont particularly like halloween,   but i respect anyone elses  right to enjoy it if they wish,   it certainly doesnt have to be halloween to have your car egged,   or trash to be around,   idle hands causing havok are around all year,   have you ever thought that maybe the ones that egg your car have been on the recieving end of some of your vitriole,  ? and are paying you back,     you never have a kind word for anything,     what a pathetic life you must lead,

I am not the topic.

I hate to break this to you Barak, so I will do it gently...I think you are.... :)

Are you aware of the rule here that says "Conversation is to be constructive and kept on topic"?

Don't take life too seriously, you won't get out alive :)

I am still following the topic...

Only with your avatar.

I love Halloween, it's my favourite of all the special days. It has about as much relevance to us as Christmas and Easter, when you get down to it.

And I have my own way of celebrating it. It doesn't have to be 'American blah blah blah' – it is what you make it. I kind of do the Mexican Dia de Muertos thing – and I rememeber all of my friends and family who have died over the years. Sometimes I burn a bit of incense or follow a ritual where I write their name on a piece of paper, then say hi or thank you, remember something they taught, me, did or said and then burn that piece of paper as an offering kind of thing. It's a magical time of year, as it always has been.

It's a day that you can make your own. You don't have to do what everyone else does. Kids love it. They get free lollies! And if your house is being egged, well, it's not nice, but maybe it's karma or something?

Bring on Halloween I say!

Ready when you are Leon, I am already dressed, and my carriage awaits, if you are all coming , travel down the highway to sleepy Hollow, turn left and follow the road until you get to dead mans bend, turn left into skeleton lane and follow the sign posts to the castle.through the cemetary and knock on the scull at the door. If you dare.....lolol
