Did you know that as a good Australian who (technically) lives under Royal rule, you're entitled to a free portrait of the Queen?

Yep. It's called the 'constituents request program' and under it, youre entitled to receive free “nationhood material” such as:

  • Booklet on the flags of Australia
  • Booklet on Australia’s national symbols
  • Compact disc and DVD recordings of the National Anthem
  • Portraits of Her Majesty The Queen and Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh

 

All you have to do to get one is email your federal MP.

The portrait of the Queen is specifically designed for Australians and is only availble to Australians. In it, QEII is wearing the Australian coat of arms and the 'wattle spray' brooch (given to her by Robert Menzies on her first royal visit in 1954) that she wears for all Australian events.

While the program may be a boon to loyal royalists, it has been called a waste of money, most notably by former Greens leader Bob Brown who, in 2012, said there was probably a bteer way to spend taxpayer money.“If there is extra money available,” Bob Brown motioned in Parliament, “I suggest that it go to ensuring that Indigenous people in Australia who are being deprived of their first languages be given an education in their first languages and that we stop some first languages going to extinction in this country. I think that might have priority. However, if there are members opposite who cannot find a picture of Her Majesty, I would be happy to provide them with one.”What do you think of this program?

Oh goody, I have always wanted a portrait of Lizzie and a booklet on Australian flags. And hey golly gosh I will also get a DVD of our superb Oz anthem? You have made my day Leon with this wonderful news - money very well spent by our generous tax payers in my opinion! It would be a waste to spend it on our indigenous people because if they learn their own languages we wonderful whites won’t be able to understand them anymore.

We must count ourselves lucky, official portraits aren’t available to other Commonwealth countries, including New Zealand, India, and South Africa, while in Canada, patriotic citizens must make do with a free download.

As one who actively supports having an Australian head of state, I do not want or need a portrait of the Queen of Britain. Surley the advocating of asking for a portrait is a ruse by the monarchists?! Let's spend that effort and money on becoming a truly, independent nation where one of our own represents us.

I wonder how many people know about this, or even bother with it if they do, much ado about nothing IMO.

I can remember when her portrait used to be just about everywhere, in schools, RSL clubs and the like.  When she was a young newly crowned Queen she was very popular, much like the grandkids are now, but I reckon you would be hard pressed to find a portrait of her anywhere now.

I'd like our own head of state too, (and our own flag), and it will come in time, probably when dear old Lizzie shuffles off this mortal coil.  I can't see anyone wanting a portrait of Charles. LOL

Now if it was Harry I bet it would be a different kettle of fish, or maybe even Willy.

I think Bob Brown is a nutter. Aboriginies have more than 1200 languages. There are far too many language barriers as it is. This is a time for us all to speak with one tongue, we are Australian.

He just does very nicely on being a Greenie tree hugger,  and a left wing believer in their political correctness nonsense. 

Look at any left winger today - political - not ordinary folk - they are doing better than workers ever dreamed.

Greed drives all today.

Shame but then the left did the job nicely of lowering morals and ethics. So who can complain today. They have the burcreacries covered. Most work in public service and its now on record that their pay has risen faster than private sector for first time.

Even pollie super which was supposed to be 9% like rest has risen to 16% 

Those here who continually quote left wing dogma - didnt get it at school.

That was later when they started dumbing down the masses via state run schools.

And why we continually hear our teachers arent up to scratch. 

Today Australia is way down bottom of the rung on education. 

Must take in on state run school results. 

As private and Catholic schools do a decent job still,  in spite of continual attacks from left on levels of help from government. many parents struggle to pay fees but feel only chance for their kids to get a good career.
