The Meeting Place

For icecream lovers

I enjoy an icecream now and then but because of the high fat and sugar content it is a very occasional treat.

However, there is a new icecream out called HALO and it isonly 280 to 360 calories per tub.

It is expensive but if you want to eat ice cream occasionally it is not expensive considering how much people spend on chocolates, wine and other goodies.

It is available at Woolworths and Coles and it only comes in a 420gram tub, from memory.

Review by a taster

"One pint of chocolate Halo Top ice cream contains:

280 calories, 10 grams of fat, 4 grams of saturated fat, 160 mg of cholesterol, 440 mg of sodium, 48 grams of carbohydrate, 8 grams of fiber, 20 grams of sugar, 20 grams of protein, 40% DV calcium, 16% DV iron.

Now, let's compare that to one the most popular traditional ice cream brands in the world—Häagen-Dazs. The nutrition facts for one pint of chocolate Häagen-Dazs ice cream:

1,040 calories, 68 grams of fat, 40 grams of saturated fat, 360 mg of cholesterol, 180 mg of sodium, 88 grams of carbohydrate, 4 grams of fiber, 76 grams of sugar, 20 grams of protein, 32% DV calcium, 32% DV iron.

There's really no contest—Halo Top blows traditional ice cream out of the water in almost every important nutritional category (especially for those concerned with weight management). The calories, fat, saturated fat and sugar totals for Halo Top are a fraction of what's inside traditional ice cream. Halo Top does this while being just as high in fiber and protein as the traditional brands (if not more so). It's still ice cream, so it can't replace veggies, fruit, whole grains, etc. in your diet. Halo Top Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream 473ml

  $ 10 00   ....   $2.11 / 100ML

It would want to be good for $ 10 for a 473ml container

.......which would be about 9 scoops ??

I agree the price is shocking for such a small amount.  However, I am still going to give it a try.

We know how the price compares          Related image

im past the stage of caring what it contains,    according to the stats,  EVERYTHING we eat has something in it that is bad for us,      a little bit of ANYTHING you enjoy is good for you,      AUDI have good ice cream,   at the moment i have a passionfruit,  with meringue through it,    it is lovely,    they also have a mint choc one,  and a banana one,   all yummy,

We have the Golden North Icecream, South Australian owned and made, Boysenberry is my favourite, it doesn't contain Palm Oil either...

the boysenberry sounds nice DEANNE,   i love berries,    havent heard of that brand,

I wonder where it is made?         Also if it has sugar substitutes in it instead of sugar?

I must admit I am addicted to ice cream -- I don't drink alcohol and I don't smoke -- but LOVE ice cream -- I always have

I do drink wine in moderation and I don't smoke.

For those who have to watch their sugar intake (me) this so called ice cream (which will taste different, I know that) will suit me.  I usually have natural yoghurt when I want something to eat with cut up fruit but it will be nice to have a bit of this as well.

Seems it is made in the USA and has Stevia rather than sugar

Much more about it here -- I will not be buying it

You can also try frozen bananas put through the blender. It makes quite a good ic-cream substitute and no add anythng!

I do that KSS...when it looks like I will not eat the bananas quick enough and they are ripe I put in the freezer and blitz them up with yoghurt, blueberries or anything else I fancy  and stir through some chopped walnuts...very nice.

I am addicted to ice cream
