Ford's long-range electric cars can travel 600km on a single charge

Ford will launch its first long-range electric cars in 2020 and have announced that a full battery charge will allow the car to travel over 600km on a single trip.

Currently, only Tesla offers a range of electric cars with a range of over 600km and Porsche’s first all-electric car is expected to be launched with a similar battery range.

What do you think of the idea of electric cars? Will the Government need to create some kind of subsidy to replace the taxes produced through fuel excise taxes? Do you feel that current governments are currently planning correctly for the increase in electricity use as electric cars become more popular?

As most would be aware from the electronic devices they use, batteries have a limited life and can only be recharged a certain number of times before the charge capacity is severely degraded. Given that many people can only afford secondhand cars, they will be up for big battery replacement costs and they will be unsure of the use/care taken by the previous owner that would negatively affect battery life.

As someone may have already mentioned, fast charging will degrade a battery far more quickly than trickle charging.

The motorhome/caravan owners here would already be aware that house power boards and wiring are 10 Amp.  An electrical contractor is needed to upgrade the power board and wiring to permit a 15Amp plug.  That is not always so easily done or possible.  But 15Amp will still have limitations where charging of the big battery banks of E Cars is concerned.  There are the safety hazards and vandal proofing problems that have to be overcome where power leads in the open are concerned.

Given that many older people will be living in units as they are being forced out of their homes by rising costs, there will be very significant shared costs to upgrade and make safe any provision for charging in parking bays and basements.  There will be shared extra power costs and extras for regular inspection and management whether you use the facility or not.  Separate metering will not be possible.

That will affect body corporate overheads and ongoing costs and increase rents.

LJ you don,t had to worry about too much of the battery. If the EV is using wifi (wireless charging) . You don,t need a huge storage battery to store so much power to run how many kilometer because you can run off from the power of the charging. The battery you need it,s just a reasonable one enough to the start the inverter to run the motor of the Ecar. That size of the battery wound cost you an arm and leg.

Alright let talk about how wireless charging work... first AC current change to DC current then from DC current change to DATA ELECTRICITY UNITS. As you can see AC current need wire to connect from point A to point B. Just like Water you need a hose or pipe to connect from Point A to point B. Now we change water to ICE than we don,t need the hose or pipe any more that it,s DC current. Now furter change ICE to small ICE ball as DATA ELECTRICITY UNITS now what happen we can throw it over from point A to point B Without need any wire or hose anymore.

That is how wireless charging happen.

Having electric cars is inevitable in Australia in the future. We no longer manufacture our own cars and eventually other countries will stop making petrol versions.

Currently there are only four electric vehicles in Australia priced under $50,000, but sales have increased since last year.

Sophie as to day Hybird is the best choice because you buy a Car you don,t want to always remember how many charge left or when to charge the Ecar that is not a car should be.

Has Bill Shorten already done a backflip and is promoting hybrids now?

To day hybirds car also had an advantage because it had a huge storage of power in the battery so that save you whole lot of money to run this car and in the future the battery will be a reasonabe size only than you need more wireless charge to run it that will cost you more money to run. But this type of car use less machanicals parts so cost less to build. So think further outside the box.

Go and had a test drive you will know all the different, as i had own one many years when i retired. Because i hate going to the petrol station lining up to fill up the car every week.

After i had the hybird i only fill up once a month and now i had retired i only fill up once every 3 months. So you can see the different.....

No need to convince me. I've had one for over a year now and never looked back.

Abe, can you rev up your hybrid like my range rover? If not, no dice!

Sorry mate, it's whisper quiet. Very useful if you're getting back from a night out with the lads and don't want the wife to know what time you got home!

Does it tow a loaded Cruise Craft Outsider 625 OK?

What about Moreton Island after a dry spell?

What Australians don't want is Labor and Greens telling them what car they are permitted to own.

I suppose that the socialists' fun police will be after the boats next :(

What makes you think that a vehicle that can do so can not be developed or is not even available now?  Electric trucks and vans have been around for decades.  I used to operate forklifts that could lift around 3000 kgs as a dead weight.  As this was over 20years ago, I would imagine that the weights I lifted are considered quite light for current machines.

This technology for the masses is new, it always takes time to develope and role out all of the variations that are or will be required.  In the meantime I am sure appropriate vehicles will be available to fill the needs required.

A lot of the recreational fishermen/women I know who fish creeks and dams are using electric motors by choice, the beauty of the technology is that it is adaptable and like all new technology, just needs to be fully developed.  They of cousre would not lift a skyer out of the water.

The current government seems to have done no planning for the inevitable introductin of electric cars on a large scale, I can only imagine it is because it may draw more attention for the need to reign in their mates in thecoal, oil and gas industries.

Hybrids are good, but they are a crossover vehicle that will lead the way to more advanced vehicles that are all electric.  I can remember all of the arguements that are being used against electric being trotted out against the Hybrids, the predictions did not come to fruition.  A Socialist type government would be unlikley to put a tax on electric cars, it would be more likely a Right Wing government that would come up with an idea like that.

Those tiny electric motors used in impoundments by the lycra clad, wraparound sunglasses set fishing for tiddlers to kiss and let go are only employed to trickle around after the 175hp petrol motor on the back gets them there (and back).  The electric would not get them part way back without a supply of freshly charged 12V batteries and certainly not against any tide or wind.  It would be discharged by a few hours occasional use fishing anyhow. Got a long extension lead?

I am happy for the market to eventually design, make good and deliver a competitive range of E vehicles.

What I oppose is the compulsion by a Labor government deciding what I must put in my driveway.

This is going to be the biggest write-off of perfectly good assets in history.  Many, most, consumers depend on the secondhand market for their next 'new' car.  Not only will their present vehicle be worth nothing, but their choice of a replacement will be limited to the Shorten-approved ECars.

" This technology for the masses is new, it always takes time to develope and role out all of the variations that are or will be required."

What sort of time frame are we talking about?

The total car sales in Australia is about 1,200,000 but only 2,000 are electric.

I realise that we have had slow take up just as other countries have had.

The point is if we have a government which forces such a lifestyle change on us before the technology has developed, and against our better judgement, then it will most definately hit us in the pocket.

Does anyone remember the milk floats inthe 1950's and 60's in the UK. They were battery operated and delivered milk everyday.

Beaut, you are welcome to get one of those.  Whatever happened to them and why?

No-one is opposed to new technology but it is foolish of socialist Labor to force their opinions on the public.  To tell people what they can park in their driveway and use for their purposes (or presumably, restrict your lifestyle to suit Mr Inauthentic's $100k ECars).

And as per usual, Labor has done it entirely without any public consultation.

As far as I know the opposition does not need to consult with anyone when developing policy.  I guess they take the view that if they get it wrong no one will vote for them. looking at previus policy developement by our governments, I would say that a consultative process involving citizens and content experts  is more likley by a Left Wing government than  a Right Wing one.  Consultancy with organisations with vested interests may be a different matter.

I would say that a consultative process involving citizens and content experts  is more likley by a Left Wing government than  a Right Wing one.

WHAT? did Lenin and Stalin consult with the populace?? Did you not read animal farm?

Too many hard words Reagan, too many, LOL

Electric cars are the way of the future, no doubt about that. At present we are not considering it, only because the choice is limited and we may not be spending our retirement in Australia.I congratulate Bill Shorten for even thinking about it and hope his plans come to fruition.

Bill Shorten's plan is to push up the cost of conventional vehicles by $5,000 with their vehicle emissions targets.

I'll never forget what those union thugs did to eggboy :(

Reagan also not forget that....

If that happened during a game of football those thugs would get banned!

Will Connolly has donated the $100,000 collected, to help the victims of New Zealand.

Good for him, it wouldnt be right for someone to profit from such a cowardly act.

Has any of the donations for the Egg Idiot been handed over to the Christchurch Foundation yet?  The operative word is 'will' (be handed over).  Why the delay?

Well it appears that nothing has been donated to the "Christchurch Foundation" although Will Connolly updated his web page to advise that he intends to donate most of the money.

Two buskets of bad fruits in this election so how to pick that one to cust the vote......

Let talk about the Electric Toothbrush how it charge.... You had to put the Electric Toothbrush on top of the base inorder to have it to charge so it,s not a wireless charging. Wireless charging it,s when the devices it,s the range it can be charge, only when it,s out of range....

The Electric Toothbrush it,s split transfromer charging, that you had to put the Electric Toothbrush on top of the base before it can get charge. The base it,s the primary side of the transformer and the electric toothbrush it,s the secondary side of the transformer...

But Wireless Charging it,s you log on to the Electric Power Station WiFi network with your ip address.... open an A/c with the Electric Power Station then you can down load the amounts of units you want....

So no Supply Charge and Cable Network Charge to pay, just pay the amount of Units you had down loaded.

I will talk about the Data Electricity Units next time....... than all of you will had a good picture of it.....

Touchy, would you be happy to stand between a flat car battery and the wiFi charger? I mean on a regular basis? Say once per day for say 5 years, which happens to be the lifespan of said battery?

Is that what happened to Don King??

Adrianus you don,t had to stand between a flat battery and a wifi EV charger because wireless connection means your Ev are always conneted and also battery always charge...Your EV it,s not swtich off even you had park it. You only swtich off the Inverter that run the EV motor to drive the  Ecar.

The advantage it,s you dont need to lineup at the filling station to fill it up. All you need it,s just pay the Data Electricity bill only. Same like you pay your other bill.

Ecar motor are build with revers charging as soon you foot are of the paddle the Ecar motor will revers charging. If you know how to drive in a free way or high way the revers charging are more than you use the battery power to drive the car. That why you don,t even need to charge it the battery already full charge.

It use most of the battery power it,s when you following behind cars stop start too much. So a car can take you to were you want to and pay just that small a mount,

Is it just me or is YLC getting boring. Used have some interesting topics. Seems to me they have gone downhill big time from what they were!!!!!!!

Image result for how long does it take to charge bill shorten

That pair will be seated in the VIP limos, the big petrol powered BMWs and soon after, in the VIP jets off somewhere nice overseas.  No electricity extension lead needed there either.
