Four Corners Report tonight 26/06/17- AVEO

Mr Turnbull, If the report on children in custody in the N.T, moved you to call a Royal Commission, surely the same must apply to the appalling treatment some of our Aged People are receiving from this Company and maybe others.  Many of these Aged People have been the backone of this Country, War heroes, and their Wives and Widows. It is time to stop the kind rhetoric on Anzac Day and actually do something about this shameful behaviour. It is is In-Humane, driven by greed by overseas investors and totally, Un-Australian.  Shame on this Company, and this is allowed to happen in Australia is absolutely appalling.  Can you just imagine the stress and anxiety this must be causing these people in their twilight years?  They deserve respect, care, honesty and dignity, not being ripped off by "Granny Farmers"!  Step up Malcolm, and the Minister for the Aged, let's see some some Leadership from you to stop this.  This is totally intolerable.  Make a move Malcolm, we expect you to fight this "big time."

My Son is a contract Painter at one of the leading retirement villages here in N.S.W. When I was selling up my place he said I should check out the retirement villages he works in. I went to 2. Beautifully set out places, Swimming Pools, Gyms, Hairdressers, Men's Shed, Ladies craft rooms and weekly shopping buses which take the residents to one of the largest shopping centres nearby. Everything looked great but when I started asking questions about the price for the units and the weekly bills for the upkeep of the gardens around the place, the old cash register in my head started to get a shock.  It didn't have a parking garage and I would have to park in one of the designated areas, all for a weekly parking fee. I could have meals brought to my unit if I wanted, another fee. They suggested I get a Solicitor to check out the details, it would take a Philadelphia Lawyer to figure it out. And the exit fee if I decided I didn't like it after a few months were enormous, more if I carked it. If the unit wasn't sold after my passing my family would have to keep paying the rent on it until it was sold. No thank you very mucho! I bought into a lovely little Villa and I am the boss.

May not have been for you Hola, but to those who can afford that lifestyle, go for it

You pay for what you get.

The pampered, resort style living doesnt come cheap

Of course there are cheaper retorement villages wbut obviously with less on site services

Raphael -   On checking out those places they had the best of everything in them, granite kitchens and bathrooms, beautiful carpets etc. but lets face it, when you are old and decrepit you don't care about these things. The swimming pools are usually empty and nobody was using the gyms. My friend's family were very wealthy and bought into one of the units for $900.000, and they had to furnish it. The poor old man had Dementia and ended up in the Nursing home after 3 weeks of living there and died 3 months later, his wife died 1 year later. Sometimes the families push them into these places so they don't have to worry about them. I think the Italians have the right idea of looking after the old folk.

yes Hola

I suppose if you have the money and no one to care for you, then might as well live it up and pay for the 24x7 care and up market lifestyle of these places

after all they cant take it with them, and if the kids dont want to look after the oldies, then they get the little inheritance left over after these places gouge their profits

HOLA,  you sound like you have some brains -- good on you -- for the amount that these places charge for upkeep you could afford to stay in your own home and pay someone to upkeep your own place

This is a JOKE

ASIC playing to the gallery

waste of taxpayer money - might as ewll shut the office down

Shares in retirement village giant Aveo slumped on Monday following news Australia's consumer watchdog will launch an investigation into the company.

Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman Rod Sims has said the agency will investigate some of the "more serious matters being raised" in relation to Aveo and that ASIC and state regulators would also need to get involved.
