Glucosamine/Potassium Sulphate Complex BE CAREFUL!

New Warnings ( seems very late to me). How terrible for all who have been taking this for years to now find its NOT recommended for anyone on Heart - Blood Pressure - Medications.
Also bad for the kidneys because of the Potassium and more information which is
a scary read.
Makes me sick as what is supposedly wonderful for our joints and bones could be killing us!
Even Grapefruit juice with some medications and other natural things so not just prescription.
Perhaps my Mum was right when she took nothing but her three meals a day and lived well into her 80's.

Hi , Il switched from GL to celery and got equal results, capsules or liquid and much cheaper.

Sounds good Westozzy. Will look into that :)

Phyl.

Hell where did you here about this Phyl ? I have been taking it for years.

I hear you Jane - like you how many have so who knows maybe it only affects some people.

I ordered 8 bottles for Peter (I take the Vegetarian ones because cannot take those made from shell fish) and now we have both stopped taking them - what a waste of money but of course Peter being on Blood Pressure tabs, and I take a heart medication for arrhythmia will wait to make sure it is o.k. to take them but seems NOT :(.

We send away to Naturalcare North Ryde NSW and they have sent us a full page on it all regardless we keep buying the glucosamine from them so I suppose they have been ordered to do this.

See what you bring up Googling Jane.

It really is terrible what we take and waste money on because we want to try and help ourselves. There was nothing on Zyrtec either to say they react badly with Panadeine Forte but I went off and bought the Z's and had a horrible one day - another waste of money but the Hayfever is driving me crazy so keep hearing how wonderful the Z's are so cannot win. Now if I could live without the Codeine that would be good but that's a no go.

All the best

Phyl.

I will google that Phyl --thanks for bring it to my attention--

I did Google that Phyl but didn't come up with any dangers--can you tell me where you read/heard that-or send me the site please--b4 I buy another bottle. Thanks

I am just reading one of the many bottles (buy in bulk when we send away) of Glucosamine

caps. from Australian Naturtalcare Products which Peter takes (he is on Blood Pressure Tablets) as he has high blood pressure.

On one of his tablets it says not to take with Potassium.

On the bottles of Glucosamine it does NOT mention Potassium :( just co-factors

with the Gluc. so how would anyone know I ask..............

SO Jane I suppose the thing is, if you are on tablets/caps. which want you to not take Potassium make sure there is none in them by asking the Chemist/Doctor but we had no idea there was any in these.

If it is just because Glucosamine caps/tabs. have Potassium as an addition and if people cannot take extra because of side effects and interaction with their meds. maybe the Glucosamine is a great thing? I have to admit albeit I take Vegetarian ones I feel no reduction of any pain from taking them....Others find magnetic blankets a god-send but both Peter and I hated ours and sold it at a gartage sale for $20 after sending away and spending quite a bit of money on it....:( SO everyone is different and if you are really finding the

Glucosamine tablets work for you and you are not worried about Potassium and if you anyway buy one that does not have that in them, well seems it works for you.

Goodness gracious it is a lucky dip with what is good one day and bad the next.

I am sorry it has confused anyone but still it makes us all go ask if what we are taking is right for us. I am still cnfused with it so will ask our Doctor before we take any more.

Your chemist would know?

Hope I have not confused you all the more! as I have confused me......lol

Have a good day

Phyl.

Thanks for your trouble Phyl--I will ask the chemist when I go up the road next--

The potassium problem can be solved by eating a banana a day, it is a great supplier of potassium for you.

I have been taking the Glucosamine tablets for years and it was my Rheumatologist who advised me to start them. I have a numerous amounts of medical problems and I am sure he would not have advised it if it caused him more problems

never mind me!!

Good luck

frilly

The Potassium is THE problem with some medications especially warnings on some (my husbands included, blood pressure tablets, along with not drinking grapefruit juice with the tablets). You are right be guided by your Health Care Professional as we are all different.

NEVER EVER take over the counter medicines without discussing this with your doctor or pharmacist first, particularly when you are already taking prescription medicines. Medicines cover health foods, natural remedies, vitamins etc. Always read the Consumer Medicine Information sheet included with most prescription medicines, or go to the National Prescribing Service web site www.nps.org.au and you can print off a C.M.I. You can also ring the Medicines Line on 1300 888 763 for independent information from a pharmacist. Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm EST.

Medicines Line will give you information on prescription medicines, over the counter medicines, herbal and natural therapies and generic or brand medicines. You can ask them about how medicine works, how to take your medicine, doses, side effects, interactions with other medicines. I once took a capsule which was meant for my inhaler. I rang up the M.L. and was reassured by their advice. So if it has anything to do with medicines of any kind, ring them.

Medicines Line does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist and is not an emergency service.

Always remember, that what works for one person might not necessarily work for another.
