Going deaf?!

Is anyone else losing their hearing? I'm not sure whether to take the next step and go out and buy a hearing aid. Does anyone wear one? Are there discreet ones? Thanks!

As we age, along with the dimming of eyes, the loss of teeth, then everyone talks so softly you cannot hear them, then a hearing aid can be a blessing along with glasses,  and new teeth, THE ALTERNATIVE IS NOT TOO LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO NEED THEM.

Seth I found your reply fantastic, the alternative is not the preferred option, but we do learn to adjust ..... most times.

That's very true, Seth! I've been doing a bit of research on the net! Do you wear a hearing aid? What sort? Custom fit or regular?

My reply disappeared into space.

Yes, sieman, fits in ear with control over ear, much better to control than older moulded in ear model.

I am so very lucky to have great hearing--I believe there are good aids out there and hope you are able to find one that suits you--deafness is a very lonely thing

I have perfect hearing but have plastic lens in my eyes due to injury. Vision is excellent and I only need specs for close up work. Both my hands have had ops for carpel tunnel and are now fine.....I can crush a beer bottle top in half between thumb and forefinger with both hands.

So go get your hearing aid....we all need a bit of help.

Davey what an achievement!!!!!! after all these years, to finally be able to crush a beer bottle top between fingers, Did you practise daily??? I can just manage to crush a milk carton, which leaves me breathless and exhausted.

You might think like that but once the pain was so great I could not break a match stick. I could now stick my arm down your throat and turn you inside out or shove that carrot up your arse and remove it from your left ear.

Davey you must have a 'death wish'  You would first have to drink all the contents of your crushed grog bottle.      plus a bottle of rum to get you out of your wheelchair.

Give up Seth if that is you last salvo.....I'll always out gun you.

Davey you out gun me with your command of English vocabulary, So I'll just sit back and let you enjoy your false sense of security.

Well of course old chap...I went to school.

hard knocks or pentridge???

Getting back to the subject - if you are on a pension or benefit you can get free hearing aids or at least get it checked to see if you need one - you need to get a voucher and your doctor can authorise it I think.

Ring John King or one of the hearing clinics they know all about it and can advise you. And tell you all about the latest aids etc.

Yes Alex

As Val says pensioners are entitled to a new hearing Aid every 5 years but have to get a doctor's referal and approval from canberra
