Greyhound racing - Baird backflips

Was he bought off?

"New South Wales cabinet ministers have emerged from a two-hour-long meeting after officially signing off on a plan to reverse the greyhound racing ban."

Whenever big money is involved, e.g. gambling, we have to be suspcious.

Baird has shown great weakness backing down for whatever reason. He has now made himself unpopular with everyone who was applauding his original decision.

Unfortunatelly the big companies like Sportsbet that were backing the Rasing Industry won.

Everyday they were putting up these crying greyhound owners to gain public sympathy ... I cannot see why my tax dollar bill has to pay for this gambling industry.

Since when has Alan Jones become a political advisor for the Liberal Party?. I noted in the paper this morning, Mr Baird last night sat down with Alan Jones for a private dinner, just hours before offically scrapping plans to ban greyhound racing. But before detailing his plans to colleagues in cabinet and the joint Coalition party room this morning Mr Baird called on Alan Jones at his juxury harbourside apartment. How come Jones knows everything that is going on before the rest of the Partyroom boys?

I am not sure Hola.  I vaguelly remember tipping the back flip within 2 weeks, about 2 weeks ago.  Baird was the most popular Premier in Australia's history & he does not want to retire as the destroyer of the Liberal Party in NSW.

You were spot on Innes...

Now who's running in the political stakes...

I'll have a bob each way..

just strap the hare to the casing and open the gate...

It's an interesting situation Cranky.  I think that Baird should not have made the knee jerk reaction, in the first place, But, the backflip may have been too late.  Between Turnbull's ineptitude & Baird's efforts, I would not risk a dollar on either Party at the next State election.  Bear in mind that the next NSW election is far enough away for lots of mistakes yet.

It's already been banned in UK, Ireland, Macau, MexicoSpain, and the US.

The gambling lobby can't be as strong there.

This is one of those rare occasions where I agree with you Barak.   BTW, gambling is banned in China, but we send a lot of dogs over there to race.  Mainly Beijing.  NO gambling, of course  Ha Ha!!!

SAD OUTCOME ... win for the Gambling Industry who bought the media  .... Loss for the maltreatment of dogs

The dollar wins yet againn
