Help for prevention of macular degeneration?

Watched the report about Saffron?
Amazing if Safron does what they say it does and not only great for help for macular degeneration but other health benefits.
Guess who is off to see where and how to buy it today.
Sounds like a natural miracle.
Wowee more expensive than gold. BUT if it works worth it. (sells all the jewellery to buy saffron) gold is gold and apparently Saffron is.

Phyl,

Where did you hear or read about it?

It was channel 7 night news or the one after the news Mara. Google it and see heaps of info. but at $3,000 a kilo very expensive but spoken of in miracle terms so what do we pay for miracles? Not sure lol.

Saffron is amazing was what they said but as expensive as gold. I looked for it in the supermarket and enough to fit on a thumbnail was $6.50 so imagine that cost wise to get enough to work? Then again Botox is expensive and people pay for that to last a few months.

I wouldn't mind Botox to maybe help migraines but hate injections and too costly.

Phyl, you can always grow your own. You need to buy the Saffron Crocus

Sativa. This is the only one to get the saffron from. Then when it flowers you pull the saffron stamen out of the flower and then dry in the oven or microwave.

Thank you for that info. Sandikay. I wish your post had been there earlier as we have just come back from shopping and I would have gone to Nurseries looking for it but I do thank you as we will go off again tomorow and see if we can buy it to grow and if they do not have them maybe order for us. Sounds great.

Phyl, Just make sure it is CROCUS SATIVA you buy. The ordinary crocus is not the one and you may have to order it online and this site is showing that they have bulbs left to order .http://www.vogelvry.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath;=1_10_120&products;_id=445

They need to be ordered now to plant immediately but they do take two years before they flower the first time

Crocus Sativus is prefers a sunny position in a well drained loose soil, keep damp during the flowering season. The saffron threads come from the stamens of the flower and are used as a spice in eastern dishes such as saffron chicken, the saffron threads should be harvested (with a pair of tweasers) as soon as the flower opens. Allow to dry in a shaded but well ventilated spot for 4 - 5 days. Store in an airtight container, and hey presto fresh saffron the most valuable spice in the world.

Just going to get cracking seeing if I can order the plants Sandikay. Wonder how many we would need? Realise we have to wait 2 years to harvest but something to look forward to. Maybe will order 4 what do you think?

Thanks again.

Phyl.

think you only get 3 pieces out of each flower. Mine should have flowers this year I hope. I bought 10 bulbs, remember they do multiply so your stock increases.

Thanks for that Sandikay I have hung off, waiting to see if you came back with how many you thought, and that there is just the 3 to use pieces per plant.

I will order 10.

Phyl :)

That is very interesting, I have a rare eye disease and part of that is age related MD I am about to undergo my second op. I had an operation to repair the retina and replace the fluid with gas this was not totally successful and I am having it redone, they are going to put in stronger longer lasting gas and laser the retina and remove a cataract at the same time, this I am fine with but there are no gaurantees with the total success, so I am very happy in deed that I came on here today and read this as this adds to my future of perhaps retaining the sight if all else fails I need the new op desperately so this will be something of interest after, do you know how much you need to take or how to use it because this is all new to me.

G'day pushymeadows and welcome.

It is indeed great news for many. Sandikay gave the place to send to plant. It will take us a couple of years to grow our own :) and it is not great the Saffron is around $2,000 a kilo to buy

but I would rather go without other things if I needed it, as I am sure you would.

All the very best with your operation and Please God it is a wonderful success this time.

Google Saffron and make up your own mind.

Congratulations on the difficult task of rearing Grandkids. We do what we have to do and as you have found out you are not alone. You are young enough now to start the best part of your wonderful new life - you go girl and enjoy every day of it.

Look forward to your posts.

Phyl.
