The Speaker has just issued the writ for the New England by-election. People in that electorate will be voting on December 2.

Tony Windsor confirms he will not run against Barnaby Joyce in New England by-election. Mr Windsor said he was not going to put his wife through another election campaign. Source.

Strange comment

Why not just admit he has no hope of winning

Joyce is out because he didn't check his eligibility and we have been paying his fat salary for years.

Now we are going to have to foot the bill for his by-election.  Mr Joyce has caused the problem, surely the least we Australian taxpayers can ask is he pays to fix his mistake.

Why do we let these people with their attitude of entitlement keep walking all over us. No one else in the community would expect or receive the same treatment.

I wonder if we paid his legal bills too, and for all the others as well?

RnR,

I started a similar thread in Hot Topics. I’m sorry, I didn’t know you had started one too because I didn’t check out the Political section. Things get lost with all the spam.

No worries at all Robi. The auto-spam has certainly buried the Meeting Place regular topics/posters again this weekend.

And it continues ... 31 October 2017 ... another one.

Senate president Stephen Parry to resign after being caught up in citizenship saga

The Tasmanian senator would become the first Liberal to be forced out of Parliament in the ongoing citizenship fiasco, which has already claimed two Nationals cabinet ministers. He was born in Burnie, Tasmania, but his father migrated from Britain as a child.

"In the event that I am found to hold British citizenship by virtue of my father's status, then I will clearly be in breach of section 44(1) of the constitution and would therefore resign as President of the Senate. In the event that I am found to hold British citizenship by virtue of my father's status, then I will clearly be in breach of section 44(1) of the constitution and would therefore resign as President of the Senate."

Following the revelation, Greens leader Richard Di Natale has immediately renewed the party's call for an audit of all sitting MPs to "end this crisis".
