How long can a person stay OS in their two year waiting period for full pension?

Hi, new poster here so forgive me if this question has been answered before. I am presently overseas and plan to return to do my two year 'compulsory' residency to gain full age pension. I meet all the required rules ie; over 35 years residency, work etc.

My question is, how many times OR how long can I go OS during this two year time frame? I don't want to jeopordise my full payment or portability.

Thank you in advance.

Do you mean you have become a Non Resident? http://guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/3/1/1/10

There dosen't seem to be any info in the link relating to my question so I will pressume it would come under the 6 week rule, (where you can travel for a short time but not over 6weeks) before jeopordising the 2 year physical residency stay?

Still a bit confusing but regardless, I will retire in Australia and comply with the 2 year rule for full pension.

A non resident? No, I live in Australia and am a Australian, like I posted, I meet all the requirements. I just take long holidays.

Thanks for the link, I also own my own home which is my principle place of residence.

Do you really need the pension? Just askin.

What is the 2 year period you are banging on about? Where are you getting that from?

PS;

When I travel I always stay in hotels and do not have residentual properties OS. I do not stay in countries for longer than 1 year and move around. The last 5 years I have spent around 3 years traveling, not settling in any one place.

Again, thanks for the informative link.

@Reagan, does a politicion need the pension (joke). I intend to retire in Aus and the way prices are going the pension would help in the future, so yes.

@Reagan, just saying, if you were entitled to 450 a week what would you say?  :)

Love your avatar, are they your dogs?

Hiya NHB, you're right mate the pollies have enough stashed away and don't need the pension. Was pulling your leg, so good luck with your queries.

The avatar pic is one from Mr Google, but, couple of months ago our beautiful labrador had 4 pups. They're growing fast and eating a lot, great fun though. We're keeping three within the family and one is being sent to a mate in Western Australia.

Cheers Reagan and thanks for your reply.

(I shudder at the cost of feeding 4 labradors but the fun of beautiful pets is worth it)

Nose Hair Bob - do yourself a favor and get a personal grooming kit.

Can't be that expensive in Thailand - or I'm sure the girls at the parlor will trim it for you

They do nose jobs in Thailand? Cool, I'll have to go there.

Might get my back shaved as well... and a penis reduction.

Nose jobs come with free happy endings

For penis reduction clinics , pm me for the name of the hospital I used. Bit expensive but lady surgeon did an excellent job. After surgery care was also simply amazzing

You absolutely sure it was a lady surgeon...

ROFLMAO, while you're there Nose Hair Bob, find out if there any cut price penis enhancement for oldbat, will ya? We'll do a crowd fund for him.Poor bugger is greatly lacking down below

@McDaddy, if I remain overseas for a few years and then just return to claim age pension a 2 year residency rule then applies... meaning my age pension will be stopped when I leave Australia again.

My initial question was how long can I stay overseas prior to my age pension date before this residency ruling is applied.

And I answered it in my first reply. You seemed to think that didn't apply to you for some reason.

@McDaddy, the 2 year period I'm banging on about comes from admin. on this site, Debbie McTaggart and OS pensions.

The link to the Social Security Guide addresses it. http://guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/3/1/1/10

Yes, your first answer was a link regarding Residence Requirements which I understand and stated I meet. The question was about taking the full pension OS and pre requirements for this. Now it seems you cannot just go back to Aus and claim AP then return OS without being penalized, ie; the two year residency.

I dont think you will be affected in any way as you meet the length of residency requiorement , ie you will get the full pension subject to assets test of course

Centerlink will require you to get rid of that ridiculous mustache though

So if I come back to Australia on my pension application date and get approved because I meet all the residential requirements, (homeowner, 35yrs work+)I can then go OS again for 8-10 months and receive the full pension?

It's the same one as the first one.

Thanks Olbaid, was confused with that 2 year crap. I'll go to Thailand for the shave, heard the extras were good.

Yea McDaddy, just realized it was the same. It doesn't address the 2 year crap but I'll sort it out when I get home, I believe it's ony a 7 hr wait over the centrelink phone.
