How to?

I would like to change my home page. Does anyone know how to do it? Pretty Please.
After looking at the BOM, that would appeal to me as my home page, but silly me, needs help to do it.

Need to know what your computer is - ie windows Home edition XP or Vista etc.

also what browser you use.

hi charlee, suanne here. just type in'' how to change home page '' and you will get instructions.ok suanne

Suanne handy to tell her where to actually type methinks!

Open Browser currently using.

click on tools and then on Internet options or Options depending on which browser you are using.

this will show your home page.

delete the one you have. (depends on which browser)

and put in new one.

or leave it blank as I do so that you dont have to open a page unless you need to depending on how you are set up on your ISP account re downloads etc.

Suanne was quite correct BigVal. Type in "How to change your home page" into any home page "Search" and Hey Presto the instructions are there.

Just tried it on Internet Explorer and got nothing but Win patrol telling me someone is trying to change my home page - see I have programs to stop it.

Cant be bothered to turn it off and I wont muck about with Firefox as use it and have blank page on all four browsers - not that I use =anything but Firefox these days as I have an IE tab on Firefox so when it detects that it is needed will open in that - so can download from Microsoft on Firefox - neat eh!!

Anyway you don't need to type in anything just change the blooming thing by putting in (by typing) the new page url or cut and paste if you know how to do it.

Google 373,000,000 hits.

Yahoo, 574,000,000 hits.

Nice to "meet" you Charlee, I'm kateW and a new member here at the Meeting Place and look forward taking part.

I think there is an even easier way to do it:

Firstly, display your favourite page in Internet Explorer, then click on Tools on the menu bar at the top of the page, select internet options, and in the first window where its got "Home page"

just click the "current" tab, then click apply, then OK. That way you don't have to worry about making a typo if you manually type it in.

By the way, I don't think you are a "silly" for not knowing how. Often, with computers, you only find something out when you need to - I've never met anyone yet who knows (or remembers) everything in the "how to" help files.

PS I wish I knew what "BOM" is???

Thanks Kate W, Now i have your reply as my home page. WOW.

This is fun. Learn ing more about the Windows Xp/

It is a pleasure to meet you also. I have a lot of fun with my computer and its my lifeline most of the time.

Now I have another query for you.

I have a Compac Presario V5000. Now the sound is fine when using games , But when trying to hear a Movie, there is whisper sound. Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

Regards

Charlee

Hi Charlee,

I am pleased you managed to change your Home page but as for the sound problem with movies Im afraid I don't have much experience (don't watch movies on my PC).

Have you done basic things like seeing if you can adjust the volume, updated drivers?

If so and that hasn't solved the problem, what about going to the program you are using to play your movies and troubleshooting sound on their help page ......

If all that doesn't work, why don't you post your question on the TechTalk forum there seems to be a lot of experienced members who may be able to help.

Good Luck!

Kate

Hi Charlee

Forgive me if you have already tried this, but you don't say whether you have.

Most movie-playing programs (eg. Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Quicktime) or DVD-playing programs (eg. PowerDVD, Nero Showtime) have their own built-in volume controls which function in addition to the system volume control (ie. the one you get from the "Accessories" -> "Entertainment" menu).

And that in turn is not afftected by the physical volume dial fitted to many laptops, so you need to check and set each level of control separately to achieve your comfortable level. If you then use the physical control (be it a dial or a key-combination which controls the system volume settings) when you switch between games, music and movies, you will only need to do the program settings once as they will be remembered.

Hope that helps!
