How to make your food look fancy

fancy-looking food

If you really want to impress your guests then presentation is key. There's a theory that if food looks better it will also taste better, because it's entertaining more senses than just taste. Some people may not care how their food looks, but I must say, it can be fun to 'sculpt' food to look really tantalising. And you don't have to spend ages doing it either. Here's a short video that shows you how a food stylist goes about presenting food. Hopefully you pick up a couple of tips to make your next dinner party a smash.

Do you have any tips for making food look better? Why not share them with our members?

:) Or making food look like fun. I like making picture pancakes (wear 'n eat) for my grandkids (two lively boys) and am very partial to a fancy homemade banana split myself, as per below.

See Saipan Cakes for great pancake designs. I just recycle sauce squeeze bottles and use any thinned down pancake recipe. Do outline first (it comes out browner), then fill in.

:) Also have to smile at the latte artists.

RnR -- I'm very impressed with your Pancake talents. I bet the grandkids look very forward to visiting Grandma. The banana split looks Yum.

Those Latte artists are something else again. So talented. I believe they have competitions for the World's Best Latte artists. I go to a little cafe near my place and the young fellow there tries out his art with me. He served me a Cappuccino which looked like the second last one, a small cat waving. Asked him how he did it and he said he learned it off the internet, but it takes a long time to get good at it.

You'll  love this.....

Now doubt about those Japanese. They can copy anything. I don't think I would enjoy a Black Hamburger, but the Bacon and Eggs look good. Some of my friends, years ago, were telling us about a restaurant they went to in Newtown, Sydney. It was called "Rude Food", and you can imagine what sought of food would resemble certain body parts, they said it caused great hilarity. The place was booked out every weekend.

Black hamburgers?...

its so true that in my world I eat with my eyes, and that certainly doesn't entice me the same way as a lovely soft bun with a chicken burger and fresh garden salad .

I went to an engagement party quite a few years back and the bride to be had a "special celebration" cake...It was phallic in design and so lifelike the stripper physically whinged when the end was chopped off...some things stick in your mind...

That was one of them...lolol

I love to use that frozen pastry -- Puff etc BUT these days it is MADE IN MALASIA I have to ask WHY!!!!

I love watching the making of wax Japanese food samples.

The lettuce is my favourite, about 4 minutes through.

These people are true Artists I love to watch them -- I also love to watch Poh -- she is an artist with her cooking and she is so particular and so clean too

Unbelievable so darn clever RnR

RnR -- They are so clever making plastic food. Did you read the comments after the film finished?. So funny, some thought he was actually making the food in hot oil with his bare hands.

I often read the comments after videos or news articles and am sometimes gobsmacked by the responses.

:) Used to think maybe the commenters didn't/couldn't read the written word but after a few videos think perhaps they can't interpret the visuals either.
