An avatar is the little picture that sits above your user name and is visible whenever you post a topic or comment. Your avatar is a fun way to express your personality and you don’t have to use a picture of yourself if you’d rather stay relatively anonymous. You could upload a picture of your favourite team, your favourite flower or any image that you feel represents you to the rest of the community.

To upload an avatar, simply click here, or click on ‘My Profile’ at the top of the page in the blue navigation bar. Once your profile page appears, click on ‘Edit Your Details’. Here you can change your username, your email address, your age range and gender. To upload an avatar, click the ‘choose file’ button next to the ‘Photo’ sub heading.

Once you’ve done this, a window will open where you can search through your computer for an appropriate image. Try to make your image a square and, ideally, it should be no bigger than 200 pixels by 200 pixels, but it will resize automatically for you if you’re not sure how to change an image size.

Now that you’ve chosen your avatar, hit the ‘Update Profile’ button at the bottom right hand side of your profile page et voila – you now have a snazzy profile picture to match your personality.
