I am gobsmacked at this article

This kid is definitely going to go far in the world...either end up a very successful  man or behind bars.  For 12 years of age...I am just gobsmacked.

"KIDS hear no from their parents all the time but when Emma told her 12-year-old son they weren’t going to Bali, he decided the word no wasn’t what he wanted to hear.

After a heated argument with his mum, the boy, who A Current Affair gave the name of Drew, borrowed the family’s credit cards and headed to Bali anyway.

After securing his family’s credit card, Drew coaxed his grandma into giving him his passport.

He researched airlines that fly to Denpasar, Bali — realising there was only one that let children aged 12 and up travel alone without a letter from parents.

Then one morning, Drew filled his backpack with enough clothes for a four-day holiday to Bali and then told his parents he was off to school.

Instead Drew rode his razor scooter to the station, took a train to the airport and boarded the plane — no questions asked."

• Jordan Romero climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 9, Mount Everest at 13
• Jim Martin, Australian soldier in WWI, died at Gallipoli at 14
• Bobby Fischer won US Chess Championship at 14, Grand Master at 15
• Nadia Comeneci achieved Olympic victory at 14
• Laura Dekker sailed solo around the world at 14
• Louis Braille invented the Braille System at 15
• Alexander the Great founded his first colony at 16
• Joan of Arc turned a war around at 17
• Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize at 17
• Pelé Won the World Cup at age 17
• Blaise Pascal developed a calculator at 19, 17th century
• William Pitt the Younger became prime minister of England at 24

Amazed young Drew got away with it.

“But despite Emma’s worry, Drew had thought of everything — booking himself a room at the All Seasons Hotel and using a popular Go Jek bike to get from the airport.”

Good on him.

LOL...I am really in two minds on this one....the mother must have been frantic when he was missing but when you think of how he managed to accomplish this...it is really amazing.

I agree Radish ... it is really amazing ... he was so darned organised ... wonder if he wants/gets a job as a travel planner.

:) I'd give him a job.

I bet his Gran won't be so easily conned in future though.

Doesn't say much for Perth Airport or our Border Force!

RnR I would not be surprised if this lad has a very high IQ.  I imagine this will be on ACA this coming week. :)

.... ..as a  person who appears to know "everything" - should know full well this story is on ACA this coming Monday night ????  Surprised you didn't know Radish????  Most do ............. been advertised relentlessy for the past 72 hours .....................??

The child is ignorant to what could have be fallen him.

lol - so ....? The kid is back home and selling his story for mega bucks!?  I'm surprised his Grandmother gave him his passport - which brings me to the ? .......

Why did his Grandma have/hold his passport and not his parents???

Why would his Grandma not ask or ring his parents to know "why the kid needed his passport"?

Most 12 year olds do not have a passport - do they???  I thought you had to be 18 to get a Passport? ...or - travel on your parents passport as a child??  Maybe things have changed  Beats me ...................?

The whole thing is bizarre ............................

Children have their own passports.

I wonder how he managed to complete the paperwork and submit it to airport authorities re going overseas.

This BOY should suffer the consequences for doing what he did. Using the family's credit card without permission would be classed as stealing. The airport should have been awake to what he was up to, if they had taken time to ask. There's no way I would let my 14 year old grandson have possession of his passport.

This lad has no idea what could have happened to him in Bali. Like you HOLA, I think he should suffer some consequences. He gets away with this and we could have a string of similar incidents who knows some could even end up in a Bali prison.

I don't think of him as any sort of hero, more like the character in the movie "Catch me if you can".

Sure makes you wonder what the future holds for him....a very determined, headstrong lad.  I too wonder how come his grandmother (if it is true) had his passport and gave it to him.  I would be ringing up the child's mother and asking why he wanted it.  Of course he could have told the GM that he wanted it to take to school for Show and Tell or some such thing.  No doubt it will all come out.

Would not be at all surprised to see a film come out about further down the road.

.... Kids do not have "Show n Tell" " at age 12!!! Time to get with today's world!   lol lol lol

yes they do, behind the toilet block, ask ruffael, LOL

Sicko
