Ice Bucket Challenge funds lead to discovery
Do you remember back in 2014 when people were dumping buckets of ice and cold water over their heads in the name of charity?
Funding was raised all around the world through the Ice Bucket Challenge in the fight to end Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which has lead to a discovery.
The University of Massachusetts Medical School's Project MinE received $1 million in funding from the Ice Bucket Challenge, funding that has helped researchers to discover the gene responsible for ALS.
The identification of the gene will allow scientists to study variants of the gene which should provide clues to understanding and potentially treating ALS.
How good is that Drew.
Next time I think/say "crazy people what good will the ice do for anyone" I will think twice.
