Internet explorer is not a safe browser ever!

I was really taken aback at the number of people still using Internet Explorer 80%. Any one of its versions - whether it be IE6 or IE7 or the new IE8 beta - still have more bugs than my roses and I spray mine regularly which is more than Microsoft does with theirs:( This flaw they are patching has been known abut by them for 7 years they reported on the News and hackers have found it and use it to get your on line banking and other private info - Blooming heck!!
.
Please just because it was there - does not mean it is the only browser you can use - there are alternatives and they are free. I had problems getting on this site whilst the Web Master was away but most didn't so used IE as I could access it with IE>
.
Best imo is Firefox and they have just brought out Firefox 3 which is far more secure as it is an open based browser which means many hands at work helping if bugs develop and is often updated. Far more than II has been in the many years I have had window$.
.
There is also Netscape and Opera and some folk rave about these - I have tried them all and Firefox beats the hell out of all of them.
.
Lots of good add ons too and easy to get and use. Like dictionary and other goodies to help.
.
Plus Firefox has an inbuilt password user name log in manager - never again have to remember once you tell Firefox to do it for you and on the new FF3 it has a menu drop down for you to mark - remember - or dont or later.
.
I already have my patch for IE as I have updates from Microsoft on auto so it does it for me. You cannot get rid of IE6 it is a part of windows and some sites need it so you have to keep it but can roll back IE7 and presumably IE8. I rolled back 7 as it just didn't work on my computer - probably one of my programs may upset it but IE6 is good enough.
.
Also of course one of the add on for Firefox is an IE Tab so that those sites you know need IE like Daily Mail UK you can right click and get an IE tab.
.
Here is the link to get Firefox 3.
.
give it a try - bookmarks are easier as you can double right click on star on URL and it will keep the site for you.

.
They also do Thunderbird which is an email program that many like - me I am a into Emotions and E Cards and all that Incredible stuff as well as business like plain e mails so use Incredimail.
It is a snifty program and I have had it for years - paid version too - that good! - if you ask for a receipt - and the person does not read it just deletes it - it comes back on its own and tells you - caught our Barnaby Joyce like that deleted after 7 months unread and others - so if you email Politicians etc - nifty and sneaky - I don't know of one other that does that. Also can bounce a spam and it will look as if your email address is not existing and block a second try. Saves money on Junk Mail and I am starting to get it now that my ISP wants me to pay extra to stop it - wonder why - greed at work alert
:):):)
.
Free with ads Link.
.
www.incredimail.com. and hit download at top of page.
.
BTW first time you use it it will do all the necessary for you dont have to worry about setting it up just go with auto set up and it will import your settings from your current email. Then you can make it your default or just use it now and then.
.
PS if you are already a geek - dont bother as you know it all anyway rolling on floor laughing do miss the emotions here!!!!

I'm not a geek - not even a semi geek - or even a partial geek. But then, I don't use my computer to pay bills or do anything else except log onto sites that interest me. If some-one wants to steal my password - that's fine - I have unlimited downloads - albeit rather slow. Seems to me that the geeks have the problem, not people like me.

Bev I put the bit about geeks for the smart ones who criticise programs like Incredimail as being too 'girlie.'

and love to have a go.

.

Point is do you use Internet Explorer and are you not going to explore the universe of cyber space with a faster browser?

.

Maybe should have said also if you are a bit of a luddite and not interested just dont bother to reply either.

.

I try to help. So gave people the link. That's all.

I use Internet Explorer, I have no problem with speed of access whatsoever, and I use the net for all sorts of things, mainly looking up information on medical and health issues, various forums, real estate, recipes etc etc.

My aunt is on a network with her neighbours, they have Firefox and IE - she has used Firefox but wasn't particularly taken with it and has gone back to IE. I tried Firefox at her place but it was no faster than my IE. I've never been really into Emoticons, although I like to use sites like Glitter Graphics with which you can decorate your emails etc.

I really am so sorry I tried to help anyone on this forum with security of their personal information.

.

Seems like millions of people, worldwide, don't really agree with you BigVal. They continue to use IE. By the way - what does an uprising of a band of unemployed workers - in 1811-16, have to do with the matter?

He Big Val, you sure make interesting reading. Food for thought. Have a Happy Xmas, look forward to more interesting posts from you in the New Year.Regards Charlee.

I understand Firefox had their security issues too - of course Firefox 3 is out now but like any browser, probably only a matter of time before it has its bugs.

Firefox update

The update is something of an unusual move for Microsoft and underscores the seriousness of the zero day flaw.

The company rarely issues security fixes for its software outside of its regular monthly patch updates.

Firefox will soon end its support of earlier versions of its popular browser

Meanwhile Mozilla has released a scheduled update for its open source Firefox web browsers for at least 10 different vulnerabilities.

The bugs in the browser could have been "used to run attacker code and install software, requiring no user interaction beyond normal browsing," said Mozilla.

It is also reissuing calls for users to upgrade from Firefox 2.0 to Firefox 3.0 as soon as possible and said it is "not planning any further security and stability updates for Firefox 2".

This means Mozilla will no longer support the Firefox 2 browser against future online scams and attacks.

That's OK as I posted up the Firefox 3 for download Jacinta.

Firefox 2 is out dated as you now have probably googled and found out - but in spite of your trying to sound switched on the flaws in IE has been there for around 5 or more years and no one at Microsoft bothered to fix it as they have a different system to Mozilla who work with all of those who download and trial beta programs which I have done for several years now.

General consensus around the tech world is that most people are a bit too scared to try new things if they are older and didnt have it taught at school as may bugger up the computer. And that is the only reason they stick to IE. It is so outdated and actually can bugger up your computer if a program you have is incompatible. Most are compatible with Firefox and you can go get all the add ons here.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Firefox has so many features not on IE - like easy book marking and RSS feeds - checking of site for identity and encryption by clicking onto URL and history at the end of the bar for that day all handier than before.

I noticed Gerry uses it and he of course is a tech.

There are always the yesses and the no 's. Personally I dumped Firefox because it caused me too much grief. Was glad to see the back of it, I use IE no problems (touch wood) so if it aint broke I aint gona fix it. Advice......stick with what you know and what you are happy with.

Here are some statistics of the 2 most popular browsers:

.

November 2005, IE version 5 & 6 combined = 68.9% of users.

November 2006, IE version 5 , 6 & 7 combined = 60.6%

November 2007, IE version 5 , 6 & 7 combined = 55.9%

November 2008, IE version 6 & 7 combined = 46.6%

Internet Explorer has become less popular each year.

.

November 2005, Firefox = 23.6% of users.

November 2006, Firefox = 29.9%

November 2007, Firefox = 36.3%

November 2008, Firefox = 44.2%

Firefox is becoming more popular each year.

.

IE is an addition you get with windows, whether you like it or not and is full of bugs.

Firefox is a well designed browser with lots of handy add ons, is faster loading web pages and is safer.

.

I think it won't be long before Firefox takes the lead in being the most popular browser.

.

Gerry

Gerry - thanks for posting it up for the non believers.

I was dumbfounded by the 80% tag for IE but guess it was either ignorance on the part of the media, propaganda by Microsoft or based on the fact that is it loaded into most computers eg 80% are Window$.
