Is Senator Dastyari playing it up?
The right-wing nationalists who ambushed Senator Sam Dastyari in a bar this week are being sued over the white supremacist group's name.
Patriot Blue is the name being used by the fictional racist group in the upcoming Stan original series Romper Stomper.
The streaming service and Roadshow Productions will launch legal action against the men who attacked Senator Dastyari, saying they have misappropriated the name from the series.
"The group involved have misappropriated the name of the fictional group from the series,” Stan and Roadshow said in a joint statement.
Stan and Roadshow Productions today instructed law firm Gilbert and Tobin to take appropriate legal action in relation to the infringement of the Patriot Blue trademark, and use of the Stan name on Facebook.
Two Patriot Blue members approached Iranian-born Senator Dastyari this week, calling him a “terrorist” and “little monkey” while ordering drinks at Melbourne bar Vu. The men filmed the exchange and posted it on Facebook.
Most of the Senator's colleagues have shown support for him since the attack – except long-time rival Pauline Hanson.
“What a joke. He’s nothing but a pipsqueak,” she told reporters.
“He’s played up this whole thing. I’ve got absolutely no time for him whatsoever.”
One Patriot Blue member told ABC Radio that “Sam’s a strong bloke, he’s got a thick skin, he’s been in politics for a long time.” He also defended his actions and claimed that the Senator was also quite racist.
“He called us rednecks, which is a racist term in fact, so look, he gives as good as he gets.
“I think he’s playing the victim a little bit.”
What do you think?
The point of all this is, no one should have to put up with this sort of behaviour from a bunch of thugs. That's what they are darn thugs. I feel if that camera wasn't there they would have hit Dastyari. Muslim women have had their head scarves ripped off their heads by Australian thugs. I was beginning to believe we were moving towards a more civilised society. Seems I was wrong.
