Is this the future of man's best friend?

Sony has been working hard for more than a decade on developing a Robot Pet. Nicknamed AIBO (Artificial Intelligence Robot), Sony's latest development is available from next month at $2899.

Packed with new AI and sensors, Sony's Aibo gives us a glimpse into the future of robotics and potentially the future of pets.

Do you think robotic pets could replace man's best friend in the future?

I know I'd prefer one of those to a dirty smelly dog that I have to feed and clean up after .

Could take him on holidays too, or just turn the mutt "off" for the duration

Must be a male - women have no problem with feeding and cleaning up mainly human males rofl.......

Joking.......

Are you offering to clean me up batgirl ?

I prefer real dogs myself. Win a dog's trust and you have a friend for life.

Does AIBO chase cats?

haha, if so, you'll be a goner mate!

Robot pet? No.

No way I would prefer a Dog anytime --they are true loyal Friends that deserve respect and love --- and better than most Humans

if you come feeling a bit down - nothing like the enthusiastic greeting of a dog to make you feel like the most important person in the world! ( even if they have just chewed all the outdoor furniture!)

Would not swop my dogs for anything, truly a man's best friend.

Unfortunately, I don't have a dog now but have had many cats and dogs during my lifetime.

A robotic dog?  Seriously?  Can't ever imagine a robotic dog giving you the love and loyalty a real fair dinkum dog does and having a robotic dog would never be something I would ever contemplate.  Would rather keep myself company!!

I suspect a buying a robotic dog would br similar to buying a pistol. Just as someone can turn your own pistol against yourself so a robotic dog can also be turned against you.

While I am not an animal hater, I never want to have another pet. I would no more buy a robotic pet or a blow-up life size rubber doll, they are no substitute to a good dog or a good lady.
