It’s official: Kate and William welcome baby No.3

The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a new prince.

Prince William was by her side as Kate “safely delivered” a son at 11.01am (UK time) on Monday, according to a tweet from Kensington Palace.

The little boy weighed 3.8kgs, and mother and child “are both doing well”, the palace said.

A minute after the birth announcement, the palace tweeted that the royal family including the Queen – who protocol dictates is the first to hear the news of family babies – were “delighted” by news of the arrival.

“The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital, London, earlier this morning in the early stages of labour,” Kensington Palace said in a statement released shortly after 8.20am (UK time).

People did not have to wait long to see the new prince.

Kate, wearing a red dress by Jenny Packham – whose designs she has worn to leave hospital with all three of her babies – smiled at hundreds of well-wishers and assembled journalists as she left the hospital cradling her baby just seven hours after the birth.

“Thrice the worry now,” William told reporters, holding up three fingers with a smile, as he got into the Land Rover to take his wife and newborn back to Kensington Palace.

“We didn’t keep you waiting too long this time.”

“Very happy, very excited, thank you,” he said.

The baby has yet to be given a name. Bookmakers have made Albert, Arthur, Jack and Fred the favoured names for a boy.

What do you think Williams and Kate will name their new baby?

I think Charles, after his grandfather, would be quite suitable.

Wish them every happiness, Kate should be very pleased with herself for producing an heir and a spare, they now have the perfect family.

Lol love that...an heir and a spare.

Congratulations to the happy couple! Now they have produced three heirs to the throne..

As for names..I think they'll stick to some of the old Royal favourites...but will include one from the Middleton family..and why not!

Another parasite 'royal' to sponge off the public. Bring on the republic!

So we can have a whole bunch of fly by nighters sponging off the public. No thanks. Leave the Constitution alone. In fact use s44ii to put traitorous politivcians in gaol.

If we had a republic we would end up in a civil war like the rest of the republics because you can't trust any power hungry political beast these days.

@ Knows-nothing

"bring on the Republic" - makes no diff. you'll still be "sponging"

I think Philip should be in there somewhere.  For those so negative anti- monarchy people can't you just be dignified at the birth of a new baby?  Heading down the way of Russia, Albania, Romania, Egypt, etc makes me even more sure we need the monarchy.

Hopefully, not Arthur.  Prince Arthur, yuk, poor little boy if he ends up with that name.

Richard. Prince Richard - Ok

Robert. Prince Robert - OK

James, Prince James - OK

Please, not Arthur.  King Arthur and the knights of the round table.  Too far back in history.  Not a good 21st. century name.

My middle name is Edward which I've always hated. If they call him Edward, I may grow to love it LOL

nah - the kid wasn't born a retard

Insulting physically challenged people again Brocky/Raphael??

By the way, you're doing reasonably well.

learn the difference between mental and physical handicaps little boy.

oh sorry - how can you given your unfotunate circumstances

how very kind of you brocky

In an overpopulated world 2 children is enough for any family.

Congratulations to the happy couple. We have four children and know how joyful it is to have a large family.

Hope they call him Edward :)

The suspense is killing me LOL

James - 7/2

Albert - 5/1

Philip - 6/1

Well the wait is over..I wouldn't gush over any of the names..although I do think Louis (pronounced the French way) is rather nice.

Footnote to the Channel 9 reporter who insisted on pronouncing it "Lewis" not once but twice..you are very silly...
