Malcolm needs to send a message

Let’s cut straight to the quick …

Donald Trump’s disrespect for Australia deserves global backlash. Apologies from the US on the President’s behalf are well-received, but not enough. Malcolm Turnbull, who is often given grief for being spineless, has conducted himself admirably. And it’s not just the reports that he stood up for Australia and the Australian people, it’s the fact that, although there has obviously been a diplomatic meltdown between Australia and the US, Mr Turnbull has remained diplomatic. He is finally acting like a leader. Hats off to Malcolm.

Donald Trump has spat in the face of the Australian troops who have fought, and died, by America’s side. We have walked into battle as US allies where no other country has dared. Right or wrong, we have had the US’s back. Ask the US soldiers who have fought alongside Aussie diggers. They’ll tell you how brave and professional our soldiers are. They’ll tell you how many US lives have been saved by our soldiers. As stated by MSNBC commentator, Lawrence O'Donnell:

"while having no idea that Australia has stood by us like no other ally, marched into battle with us where no other ally would go, including Vietnam, something Donald Trump would have known if he had served in Vietnam and heard those men beside him with those Australian accents, men who saved the lives of American troops".

A New York Times report revealed that, four times, Mr Trump avoided serving in the Vietnam War, including a medical deferment for bone spurs in his heels. He’s pretty brave over the phone, isn’t he? Brave enough to dishonour an agreement made between two countries; brave enough to break a deal made with the former President; brave enough to beat down Barack via Twitter; brave enough to disrespect one of the US longest, staunchest allies from the security of his Oval Office, but not brave enough to fight alongside them in the trenches when he was called for duty.

Malcolm Turnbull should send a message to the US, withdraw our troops from all overseas military engagements, admit the refugees from Nauru and Manus Island, put our long-standing alliance on hold and quit hanging our hat on the US hat rack. The way Donald Trump is acting, by all accounts, the US will be at war with Iraq and China in the near future. The country will be fighting with its closest neighbour, Mexico, and will lose all global respectability in no time.

Maybe then Donald Trump will see how much he needs Australia. Then he’ll see what it means to honour an agreement. Maybe then Australian politicians will see that we don’t really need the US.

Clearly, Trump’s disrespect has made me angry. What do you think of Donald Trump’s actions? Is there hope for a resolution? Has this damaged diplomatic relations between Australia and the US? What should be Malcolm Turnbull’s next move? Is it time that Australia cuts ties?

Talking about America, when my husband and I went to visit a sick friend, we were in the UK and wanted to fly to Boston.   It was explained to us if we flew out of Dublin we could go through American Immigration at Shannon. This is what the planes do leaving Dublin for Boston Airport.

They do a short flight to Shannon.  There we met with some big burly American Immigration Ladies.

One asked my husband if either of us had been to the USA before, yes my husband replied, when she asked he thought and said 1956.  Well the look on her face! She tried very hard not to smile.

Once that was over the flight took off again, we landed at Boston Airport and within 45 minutes we were in our hotel room!

Hi Tom...

Did you watch the Four Corners programme about six years ago that I mentioned?

Yes they are fundamentalist, that is why they would never want to come here in the first place if we did not allow that Sect.  There are many nice and liberal Muslims in the world why don't we help them.

Look at Britain today, there are parts that is Sharia Law in London and Birmingham and Police will not enter those areas.  Indeed one Chemist found itself in a Sharia area and the girls in the Chemist were told to dress appropriately ....  About three years ago my hair dresser approached a female person dressed in heavy black clothing and asked her what it was like to have to wear that.  The reply she recived shocked her.  She was told she would find out soon enough. That is here in Perth.

Why should I be ashamed of telling you the truth?

You need to walk the streets of London, go to Regent Street and go two blocks back and find out.

Hi Robi.

Federal Law or State Law please Robi?

I have not heard of that.

Ann, we do not have Sharia law in Australia. We have our own laws only. There are areas in the UK where Sharia Law is recognised (I think in Family Law only but not sure) but not in Australia. Our politicians, both State and Federal have said Sharia law will never be recognised as law in any way at all in this country.

So Robi, are you saying that all it would take is for Australia to have more Muslim Ministers to make it happen?

Robi I was giving an example at how easy Sharia Law can be implemented.

I think we should have it written into our Australia Legislation that it cannot be part of our culture or take place anywhere within our country.    I has come about in France and the UK too easily of recent years.

We have laws in this country enacted by Parliament and these are the ONLY laws of this land. It is true that we also adhere to certain others - International law, Maritime law, and probably some others. There is also the case of Aboriginal law where our law enforcement people defer to tribal law in certain circumstances and in some remote locations.

If groups of people agree to be bound by other religious or cultural laws, that is their choice.....UNTIL those laws come into conflict with the laws of the land which will ALWAYS take precedence.

I really cant see Sharia law or any other "justice" system becoming a problem in this country.

The people of the Sharia faith make ghettos and then they take over from there themselves, that is what I am referring to.  This is what has actually happened, not maybe will happen it has happened. Surely we can learn by other countries misfortune?

As I have said in both France and England the Ghettos are now so large the Police don't enter into them.  I would not mind betting it is happening in Germany now too.   The idea of having Legislation that names this faith in Legislation then surely their followers would not wish to enter australia, hence the issue of fundamentalist issues would not arise.

To make a Ghetto and fight the legal law makers like the Police should not have to happen in the first place, but it has.  We have the Westminster system, if the UK are having issues we will if nothing is done soon.

I can't see what President Trump has done , by putting a temporary hold for ninety days on seven countries identified by President Obama as sources of terrorist , whist they examine their vetting.

I don't see how this is any different that what The Labor Govt in Australia did by putting a temporary ban on Iraq and Sri Lanka

One comment to this guy accusing me of Alt-Facts. What you obviously mean is Fake News and it comes from you not me. One “truth” you’ve obviously bought into is the blather that “more voted for Clinton than did for Trump”.

Here’s just a little bit of truth you can believe or reject.

While Hillary Clinton claims she won the popular vote in the 2016 presidential election,  most — if not all — of that number can be discounted by the obscene amount of voter fraud occurring in Democratic strongholds throughout the country. In fact, if one leaves out the figures for California alone, President Donald Trump would have won the popular vote nationwide in the election. And with legal votes.

California voted almost universally for Clinton and it’s a gigantic population of both legals and illegals. In the US only legal citizens are eligable to vote. I’m not even eligable to vote after being here over twenty years since I’m Australian by citizenship.

But if I lived in California I could have gotten registration in a day. I could have registered online almost up till election day. Or done a mail-in with no ID.

Even before having legal papers I could have gotten a California driver’s license. Yes, they give driver’s licenses to illegals and it’s all you need to be eligible to vote there. California actually spends millions of dollars giving driver’s licenses to illegals. Guess why? (might have something to do with the fact that  they’ve instantly created a voter who always will vote Democrat}.

Hey, I getting  tired of this. Harldly scratched the surface. It's kinda pointless when for every fact that’s presented on any subject there’s a leftist liberal shout down with their own set of facts and figures, which always seem to be totally opposite.

Oh, and to the one (or ones) who took affront at my  referring to Barack Hussein Obama II as a muslim, I’ll just quote “by their fruits you’ll know them”. And if I were to expand on that there’s not enough bandwidth on their forum to even get started.

Thanks for the info gfm6

A lot of people in the world are not aware of this.... yet they ramble on about the situation

Its all well and good to squeal about "voter fraud" etc....but the FACT remains that Clinton did get more votes than Trump. That is FACT, not alternate fact. It is ludicrous to just select a state like California and look at the vote count without it. If there was indeed voter fraud, lets see the proof - prosecution of the guilty etc?

Trump also claims that more people turned out for his inauguration than did for Obama's.....just look at the news footage of the crowds to see the lie in THAT. True, maybe more people watched on the internet as there was probably much more international interest because of Trumps notoriety.

With all the spin, lies and "alternate facts" coming out of the White House these days, Trump is shovelling his credibility down the toilet.

All true kfchugo, but that is the system the Founding Fathers set up many years ago. The Democrats can whinge all they like.

Same here: the Libs won the elections in SA a couple of time but not Government. We do NOT have first past the post. And neither do they.

Even with first pass the post as in the UK , you can still have the party with most votes nationally not having a majority of members of parliament .

The only system that could approximate numbers into seats is proportional representation , but this as we have seen in the Australian Senate does not lead to Stable Govt .

The inablity of the executive to enact its policies in both the US and Australia are the results of being a federation  of States and having a written constitution that allows the smaller states to frustrate.

I think the answer is both cases is to restrict the Federal Govt to Defence and Forign affairs and return all other duties to the states . Revenue should be raised at State Level and grants made to the Federal Govt.

I think the Germans have a system like that. I'm not sure how it works exactly but there are certain quotas allocated according to the number of votes. Seems to work for them. Never hear much about political upheavals from there. Or maybe its just Mother Merkel. :-)

Oldie83,

Think things will be interesting in both Germany and France this year.

"Angela Merkel's party falls behind Germany's centre-left opposition SPD for first time in a decade. Though only the findings of a single poll, the latest results appear to be a symbolic watershed moment in Germany politics, which Ms Merkel has dominated for over a decade.

The 2017 German federal elections come five months after France picks its new President. The final round of that contest is likely to be between a centre-right candidate and far-right candidate Marine Le Pen."

Is it possible that Trump just needs a little time to settle in? That phone conversation with Turnbull did sound a tad bombastic, but is it possible that Trump is just the "kid in the lolly shop" at the moment?

the good folk of Germany ,france, and England ,probably wish they had a D Trump running their county, there would probably be a lot more people alive today.

IMHO Trump was stitched up by Obama, and turnball should have had more sense, than get get on the blower, and tell Trump "dont forget ,your taking all our refugees"im not surprised  he hung up on him.

History will decide if Trump is a good president ,or not,not the "gated" hollywood celebrities, ask Meryl Streep to do a few movies for nothing?

Trumps biggest crime to date is ,he wants industry back in America ,he wants Americans to have work, bring the "rust belt "back to life, probably too late for that now ,but at least he is going to try.

whereas our polys wave all our jobs goodbye, they dont have a clue how to stem the flow, and they dont seem to be able to stop the spending,Its all to hard for "our guys"the only thing they excel at is putting up the price of cigarettes, and taking old folks pensions away from them..

,

gadsby, I agree with most of your post. The heading by Leon tells a story and perhaps is a cry for help. Do we need a Donald Trump?
