How does Listeria get into food?

Listeria monocytogenes is found in soil and water.

Vegetables can become contaminated from the soil or from manure used as fertilizer.

Animals can carry the bacterium without appearing ill and can contaminate foods of animal origin such as meats and dairy products.

I never buy processed food because of poor health and hygiene standards. Our public hospitals serve the same sort of food too. We have become obese lazy and a dirty society.

your last sentence is completely wrong, you cannot and must not talk for everyone. Speak for yourself. Thank you jackie.

jackie you don't look obese to me. Do you eat at all. Perhaps a nice bowl of pasta?

I think Jackie was making a generalized comment about obesity, there are over 60% that are over weight though.

And I agree publlic hospital food is horrible, not long ago I took my mum some salad and other food and drink to tie her over, I was shocked at the unhealthy food they were serving, she did not think she felt like eating all the salad but once she started she ended up finishing it because her body was craving for nutrients. So if visiting people in hospitals please take wholesome food if you can, better than a bunch of flowers.
