New scam alert: hackers pretending to be your telco

A new telco scam is doing the rounds this week and the Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) is warning all Australians to not enter their credit card details when asked. The email claims that your last payment failed due to incorrect credit card information.

The email (as seen below) looks very similar to Optus emails users with this telco would have received in the past.

"The fake emails are sophisticated and use a web address that looks like the real Optus website. The email contains a link to a fake ‘pay your bill’ page, which then asks for your credit card details," said the ACMA.
