NOVO virus

Not sure if anyone goes on cruises?

But because of my husbands spinal conditions this is the easiest way to have a holiday, he has had surgery on his spine.

Put the clothes in the wardrobe and relax...well last time we went last December on the Sun Princess she had the NOVO virus, the cruise before us and subsequent cruises since.

Yesterday I was on the Cruise Critic site and have been keeping tabs with passengers on the last cruise. They are reporting that there was no virus this cruise, they closed the Library down.

In the Library on cruise ships they keep all the games, cards and board games etc.,  we do use the Library but we will hesitate if we go on another one.

With already auto immune problems and spinal issues the last thing anyone wants is the novo virus. So please be careful if using these facilities on cruise ships.  I usually take my own book with me, but didn't this last cruise.  So passengers please beware.

Another place that could be an issue is the IT Lounge where people come and have computer instruction, how does one keep the keyboard free from germs?

Its actually Noro virus.

You are  correct except that it is one word.

It is actually :-  Scientific name: Norovirus

Well..if we want to be ultra correct..the name is actually Norwalk virus :)

Norovirus infection - including symptoms, treatment and prevention

Norovirus infection is a type of viral gastroenteritis (also known as ‘gastro’: inflammation of the stomach and intestines (bowels)). Noroviruses (previously known as Norwalk-like viruses) are small round structured viruses that are members of a group of viruses called caliciviruses.

VirusNorovirus, sometimes referred to as the winter vomiting bug in the UK and Ireland, is the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis in humans. It affects people of all ages.WikipediaScientific name: NorovirusRank: GenusHigher classification: CaliciviridaeLower classifications: Norwalk virus, Murine norovirus

Yes and it affected husband and I on the last cruise,  in future if we go on a cruise the last place we will head for is the ships Library as I am sure that is where we managed to get the virus.

How they will clean the books I don't know, unless the virus has a certain life span???

Problem with Noro Viruses are that to some extent they are airborne, walking past a Cabin where some one has it and has vomited the virus may be in the air in the corridor. It is highly infective,  is dreaded in aged people's homes and in nurseries. If you contract it you should stay away from people at risk for 2 weeks afterwards. Even gloved and masked when in direct contact with someone with Noro virus I still managed to catch it despite being very very careful. Possibly like Legionaires disease it could be spread by Air conditioning, lots of studies going on.

Vivity hi.

Husband still maintains on the cruise ship it came through the air conditioning.

The Sun P, has a continual smell of sewerage.

PS:  to my last post........

communicating through Cruise Critic with a passenger on the Sun Princess on the last cruise she stated that there were no cases of the virus.  But that they had closed the Library off limits.
