Oh the tangled webs of the ALP

Kristina Keneally will be formally endorsed by the NSW Labor right faction on Tuesday night to replace Sam Dastyari in the Senate, having given assurances to trade union leaders on economic, social and industrial policy.

Among the concessions given to union leaders necessary to win their endorsement was a pledge to oppose privatisation of government assets in union-dominated industries.

She also gave a general reassurance that she would faithfully advocate union values in parliament, and would prosecute key issues in estimates committees.

The tribal NSW Labor right — officially known as Centre Unity — will meet at the Sydney Trades Hall and also pay tribute to Mr Dastyari, who was NSW Labor secretary and convener of the faction from 2010 to 2013. Ms Keneally and former NSW premier Bob Carr are expected to be in attendance.

Mr Dastyari announced his resignation from the Senate in mid-December following rolling scandals over his close ties to a Chinese businessman, who had paid his travel bills and legal expenses, and after it emerged that he had departed from Labor policy by saying he respected China’s policy on the South China Sea in mid-2016.

 Australian

so she doesn't have to commit to the good of Australia but to faithfully promise she will do everything that is good for the union minority. and Australian voters accept this outrageous condition.

Welcome to Democracy. Where labor’s 34% of the Australian vote is controlled ENTIRELY by Unions whose members count for less 17% of the workforce!

Less than 10 per cent in the private sector ..

Take the decade ending 2016. At the beginning, nearly 19 per cent of workers belonged to a trade union. By 2016, the proportion had fallen to 14.5 per cent. In the private sector, trade union membership now accounts for less than 10 per cent of the workforce.

In absolute terms, the union movement has lost more than 300,000 workers, with overall membership around 1.5 million. There are slightly more female than male members. And the group with the highest rate of unionisation is professional workers, dominated by teachers and nurses.

For teenagers, only 4 per cent belong to a trade union and for those aged 20 to 24, the rate is just 7 per cent.

These figures do not bode well for the future of unionism

Some say the dramatic drop in Union membership is casulisation of the work force .

“But here are the facts. The degree of casualisation of the workforce has not changed from around 20 per cent in more than two decades. Defined as those workers who are not entitled to paid leave, the growth of casual workers was a feature of the 1980s and early 1990s.under Labor .

Needless to say, most casual jobs are part-time. But if we look at the most recent labour force figures, we note that the vast majority of employment growth has been full-time. For the calendar year 2017, 322,000 out of 393,000 — or 82 per cent — of all new jobs were full-time.”

Bracket quote from Australian

the current labor party the total opposite of the likes of the Hawk/Keating government.

Keneally agreed to follow her union masters just to get an expensive red seat in the Senator and follow her union masters to whatever nutty idea they email her.

Keating’s comment long ago that the senate was pigs swill is even more correct today than back when the comment was made.

It’s time the senate was abolished as its no longer the state house, now it’s a bunch of people many that could get a job in the real world. It’s time government’s were given the right (either side)to Govern  and if we don’t like their policies then remove them if they fail.

Given the current senate continues to block legislation that if not implemented will lead the downgrading of our AAA ratings. The result will mean higher interests and costing taxpayers

NO NO NO at least the Senate keeps the bastards honest to a degree  -- I agree would be great to remove the Government but can't do that without and election

Do you think one Tasmanian vote is worth 15 NSW votes ..

The Tasmanians in the Senate Whether Harradine Brown or current crop just milk the rest of us in exchange for their vote.
