Olives

hand holding a bunch of olives

We all know Olive Oil is very good for us but until I started looking how to preserve fresh Olives I didn't realise how good the whole Olives are for our health.

Many years ago we collected a big pot of Olives from New Norcia Monastery and preserved them my memory is that it took weeks. Now I have my first big crop and wonder if anyone has good recipes?

Thanks for the informative link Viv

My Italian neighbour preserves olives in brine ...sure an improvement on the bitter taste when raw.

Sure like other drupe fruits they are very nutritious but I have never acquired taste for them hence do not partake in eating enough of them to be beneficial to me ..... give me a plum or cherry anyday.

Having said that olives are a vast part of the Mediteranean diet which is supposed to be be  very healthy.

I had to look up Olives as my daughter wanted to know if they were Black or green when ripe, she has her eye on them and yesterday I arrange a swap with friends for some of them for figs wwhich I absolutely love!

Olives...sun dried tomatoes  and Danish fetta in a French stick...place in oven for a few minutes...just yummy...a glass of chilled wine and it's heaven..

Sort of food we all eat too but I love the marinated South Cape Feta,  so simple but grand.

Never acquired a taste for them myself....... even pick them off my pizza.

Love olives now.  Could not stand when I first tried.  Love fetta, sun dried tomatoes and also blue vein cheese.

Chilis I also love.

Put all that plus figs - fresh or dried with some grapes, quince and sharp cheddar and crackers on a cheese tray

a nice bottle or 2 of Prosecco, Shiraz or Cab Sav and youre set for the day

Yep, my sort of food Raphael.  Would rather that than a lot of sweet food.
