The smug thug who was shown on TV laughing and taking selfies after he left court (and only being given 12 months probation and $360 fine) has been picked up by Border Force (thank you Mr Dutton...I assume you intervened in this) and is in detention awaiting deportation.  In fact he may have already gone by now

"New Zealand-born Caleb Maraku, 19, was filmed laughing and posing for selfies outside court after avoiding jail time for the shocking assault at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.

Maraku has been arrested by the Australian Border Force and will be deported to New Zealand, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

I was under the impression that he had to be given a 12 month jail sentence before Immigration could deport him.  I am assuming  the Minister has used in discretion in this case.  I do know there was a petition put to him with 50,000 signatures asking for him to be kicked out.

So who cares Radish?  Most people these days are oblivious/numb to the weak judicial system that this country has ...... you can do anything you like and walk away with a "slap on the wrist" these days - if that!

Melbourne is out of control. We should give Victoria it's own sovereignty, build a wall and make them pay for it!!!

Makes one wonder as to what is wrong with our magistrates ?

"Southport magistrate Joan White spared New Zealand-born teenager Caleb Maraku from prison - instead handing down a year's probation for the incident."

Thank goodness for Mr Dutton to have Maraku deported.

No justice for the victims of these crimes

Compromised. I think in this case Judge Joan would have known this idiot would be deported.

 

That is right Frank.  She knows that if she gives 12 month jail he would be immediately deported on release so she just gives probation.

So glad that the Minister has the balls to do what so many in the past have not.
