The creator of children's book icon Paddington Bear has died aged 91.

Michael Bond, the British author responsible for creating the children's (and many adult's) favourite, died at his home in London on Tuesday after a short, as-yet unspecified illness.

Paddington Bear first appeared in 1958, marked by the wonderful opening words "Mr. and Mrs. Brown first met Paddington on a railway platform" in A Bear Called Paddington. The lovable furry hero has has since sold millions of copies worldwide and has also starred in feature films, TV series and animations.

To Michael Bond, who has touched the hearts of children and adults for more than half a century, just as what what was written on the tag around Paddington's neck when Mr and Mrs Brown discovered him, we say "Please look after him. Thank you."

I have a big Paddington Bear as he has always been a favourite of mine. I used to read his books to one of my children in particular during afternoon rest time and I used to have trouble getting the words out as I was laughing so much.

Thank you Mr Bond for a wonderful character and many hilarious stories.

Thank you Michael Bond..will always love Paddington Bear..as children we all got so much joy from following his adventures and I still have my Paddington Bear...I really can't think of many British children who haven't got one...
